We started buying secondhand books from our local listserv, and was amazed to find out that you can buy enormous trash bags of books for as little as 20 bucks! It works out to as little as 25 cents a book sometimes... plus you can resell the books when you're done. Our kids like to read a lot, so it's actually easier to buy and resell secondhand books than it is to go to the library.

I buy a lot of books from Better World Books. Most of their books are around $4, with free shipping, and they donate a book for every one purchased.

Yes! About 80% of their books are secondhand. I buy them at our local children's consignment store for .50-$1.50 depending on what type of book it is. I find lots of pretty much brand new, popular titles for a steal. I just can't justify $15 on average for one book when I can get 30 for the same price.

Almost all of our books were bought used. All the others have been gifts. But we don't have a ton of books. I feel like if you have too many the end up never being read anyway. We make use of the library quite a bit instead.

We haven't had to buy very many books because she was gifted so many before she was born and for her 1st birthday. DH checks out books from the library for her pretty often, though.

I'd say 90% of her library is second hand from 2nd & Charles... One of my favorite stores ever! 
I recently sold a few old dvds and comics to them for $39 in store credit which got her a huge pile of books considering they were $1-$4 each!

Yup! The public library also has a huge book sale each year and I will get a ton of books for her then too.
Lately I am more about borrowing books from the library. I will borrow about 10 books every 2-3 weeks.
