I'm super hungry today and wanted a ramen, but I didn't want to eat an entire ramen.
So I cut it in half. Used half of the "sauce" and ate it.
Satisfied and guilt free!
I shall eat the other half tomorrow.

Haha. I think I'd end up just making the second half after finishing the first. Or I'd eat it dry. I used to do that as a kid.

The real question is: did you crack half an egg into your half-ramen?
Just kidding, of course you used a full egg... right???

Ramen is contraband in our house... but every now and then I break down and buy a single package. Full ramen, full egg... I feel guilty just thinking about it.

@mrbee: OMG. HAHA. I did use half an egg.. only used the egg white. lol

@tina: There's a ramen called HooRooRook. It's not fried and it "healthy." Only 300 calories for the entire thing! Saved my life when I was pregnant!

@chopsuey119: wow, just the egg white and half the ramen... you are so disciplined!!
I will have to check out hooroorook! I hope our Hmart carries it!
admin / wonderful grape / 20724 posts
@chopsuey119: Wait, wth? What did you do with the egg yolk??
hostess / wonderful honeydew / 32460 posts
@mrbee: I tossed it. ahh waster!
@tina: Our Hmart carries it so I'm sure yours will too!

Wait, you're supposed to put an egg in your ramen too? How do you do it? Do you cook it first, or does it cook in the broth? I've never used half the noodle pack, but I usually use only about 3/4 of the "sauce". It makes me feel like I'm being vaguely healthy since I'm cutting down on the salt.
admin / wonderful grape / 20724 posts
@chopsuey119: wow... my mom would kill you for doing that!
hostess / wonderful honeydew / 32460 posts
@skibobrown: You don't have to, but it makes it SO much better. You put the egg in after the noodles go in. Eggs cook in the soup.
@mrbee: HAHA. We're a family of yolk tossers.

@chopsuey119: Do you mix the egg in with the soup like egg drop soup? ...or do you let it cook on top to make more of a fried egg floating on top of the soup? I have so much to learn...
blogger / watermelon / 14218 posts
@skibobrown: I just throw the egg in with the soup base and it cooks in the boiling water. Sometimes I'll stir it, sometimes I won't-- I like the solid parts of yolk I also use about 3/4 of the soup packet..... Sometimes i'll throw in 2 eggs

I also didn't know about putting egg in. Now I have to go buy some and try it!
I would make the whole thing and save the rest in the fridge if I didn't eat it all.

I used to always make the 1/2 pack because I couldn't eat the whole thing.
Now I don't know how I ever did that!

ahh. back in my ramen heyday (aka college), i'd only eat a half-ramen... if i ever found it that way in the pantry, left-over from my health-conscious housemates. I'd just add it to my full one. 1.5 packages of ramen actually makes a pretty nice portion.
and yes @mrbee. 2 whole eggs, every time. I raised to never seperate... cholesterol-cholschmesterol. I started the yolk-separating thing when i started making eggs for Junior.

I have never thought of doing that. It is way too small! Was it a snack?
admin / wonderful grape / 20724 posts
@pastemoo: it breaks naturally only one way... it's kinda freaky actually!
cantaloupe / 6146 posts
@mrbee: Exactly, that's what I mean. So, I crack it in half by hand. Seems like cutting it in half would be a different thing. But I'm weird, so they could mean the same thing.
admin / wonderful grape / 20724 posts
@pastemoo: I think the real takeaway from this thread is you should just eat the whole darn ramen.
cantaloupe / 6146 posts
@chopsuey119: You have different ramen! What planet do you buy your ramen on?
hostess / wonderful honeydew / 32460 posts
@pastemoo: really? most korean ramens are round!
admin / wonderful grape / 20724 posts
@pastemoo: I am getting the feeling you are not taking ramen seriously.
cantaloupe / 6146 posts
@mrbee: I take ramen very seriously. I used to eat it raw as a snack in elementary school. But I, apparently, have never bought Korean ramen.
hostess / wonderful honeydew / 32460 posts
@Andrea: Pots are round so you'd think all ramen would be round, no? Japanese ramens aren't all round either.
GOLD / wonderful coffee bean / 18478 posts
@chopsuey119: that makes NO sense. That would mean you think all food should be round to cook in round pots! Do you have a fever, too?
hostess / wonderful honeydew / 32460 posts
@Andrea: LOL! Dood. It's such a pain cooking square ramen in small pots! We have a special "ramen" pot that's the perfect size. I tried cooking a square ramen in it and .. no bueno.
GOLD / wonderful coffee bean / 18478 posts
@chopsuey119: ok, ok! i get it now. good thing korean ramen is round for you then!
