Do you ever run your dishwasher or washing machine overnight while you're sleeping?

I turn the dishwasher on right after dinner. It's done by the time we're asleep. Our place is so small that we wouldn't be able to sleep with it running, and yes, I do that to minimize the fire risk. I do the laundry while I'm home and awake for the same reasons. Also, I've seen a laundry machine break and start to flood the floor. Trust me, you want to be able to react to that quickly, too. (Especially if you live in a condo or apartment.)

@Andrea: Yes on crock pots! I could never understand why anyone thought it would be a good idea to leave a $20 (or even $50) appliance running without supervision. I mean, I can't be the only one who had an electric kettle in college (and got a stern talking-to about not leaving it on), right?

When we had units in our apartment, we would run the dryer at night all the time.

@Bao: @Andrea: @honeybear: Ditto on the crock pots! I've only been able to leave it on once when I was gone, and I was so nervous about I cut my lunch date short and convinced my BFF to come back to my house!

I don't make a habit of running appliances when I'm sleeping, but I have turned the dryer on right before bed, and sometimes the dishwasher is still running, but it's usually in the drying phase, and then shuts off.

I don't ever since I read a YHL post about a house burning down because of a dryer. Super scary and I actually will stop the dryer if we go to bed before its done.

All the time. I'm with the others using off peak when we can. Plus by the end of the day that puppy is full!

All of the time. I've heard it's dangerous as well. I don't leave anything run, especially our dryer if I'm leaving the house though.
