I am really looking forward to some warmer weather, and thinking ahead to activities we can do once it warms up and LO is a bit older.
Do you ever take your LO to museums or the zoo/aquariums/etc by yourself during the weekday? I wonder if going solo with LO would be worth it/doable. We are within a 25 minute drive to a lot of museums and the zoo!

Regularly! When I was at home, we did a ton of things during the week, just the two of us, like swimming lessons, the zoo, the children's museum, play groups.
Now, I even take my son alone to soccer on the weekends.

I haven't yet. DH is taking the girls to the museum, zoo and aquarium this week by himself.

Not yet, because C is so young, I'd be going mostly for me. But I'm meeting some mom friends and bringing her to a children's museum this week.
Once she is older and would enjoy it, I could see it, though I'd probably still rather meet up with another SAHM friend for the company. C isn't much of a conversationalist, despite my running "dialogue" with her.

I haven't yet because we generally like to experience 'firsts' as a family, and since we are in a new city everything has been a first! For any subsequent trips to the zoo, museum, wherever, I would happily take my son alone!

Yes! I take S to the beach by myself and on long walks when the weather is good. This Spring I will start taking her to the zoo etc. basically whatever I feel like doing. I don't mind doing things by myself anyway, so the lack of adult company won't be a problem!

All the time, from about a month old! We live about 20 minutes from the zoo, botanical garden, butterfly garden, and aquarium- I like weekdays the best since it is much less crowded! It's just a nice way to get out of the house for a little bit and avoid spending money since we have memberships.

All the time! Usually we go without Mr. T, and most often I have both girls by myself. Totally do-able and very fun.

I took DD to Sea World by myself. I'm not sure I'll do that one again.... maybe something smaller.

Yep! I brought her to the museum solo last week, and she slept the whole time in a wrap. I stayed and read all the displays to her anyways, because maybe she absorbed some of it in her sleep? I'm pretty sure I looked totally insane.

I've done the children's museum by myself with both kids! The hardest part is managing the subways with a double stroller...

Totally! We have memberships to the zoo, aquarium and a few museums and it is really fun to go just the two of us, or meet up with friends. Granted, my DS is quite a bit older than yours, but I would still take him alone when he was a baby.

Definitely! It's more fun with DH but I'm with J more.
DH won't go to the museum without me though. If It were closer, he probably would. He will take him to the Y by himself, though.

Yes! Especially when she was younger and our outings were tightly scheduled around her naps. Once she got older we're way more flexible and can meet up with friends

Absolutely and that includes the over 2 hour drive to get there. We visited Santa Barbara and while hubs was interviewing we were out and about in the town.

Yup, I've taken them to museums, zoos, beaches and even Disneyland by myself. It's nicer during the week without crowds and it gives us something to do, especially when my eldest is out of school during vacations and summer. It can be exhausting though... It also helps to meet up and have a playdate at these places. You get adult interaction with the other parent and the kids have fun too.

I take DD to the childrens museum, music classes, and play gyms by myself all the time - totally doable. Takes a little pre-planning to make sure you have everything you need and work out transportation, but you can do it!

I never took LO to the zoo or museum, but we did frequent some local botanical gardens during my maternity leave! If I was a SAHM I would definitely go to the zoo or museum with her!

One of the best things is if you have the membership and you live close enough- you can go for an hour or two and leave without feeling guilty for not seeing everything and getting your full money's worth.
That's been working well for us since we stopped taking the stroller- we do a section of the zoo for an hour or two and head home once he starts getting tired.

@lemondrop: that's our reasoning as well. When we're paying per visit I felt badly if we had to leave suddenly because my son isn't following directions. Now, if he acts up and doesn't listen, we leave I don't feel like I just burned cash.

DH actually braved this activity before I did - and to the MFA in Boston, not even the Children's Museum! She of course was perfectly behaved for him.

I've only done it once, but I took my then 2 month old and 17 month old to the aquarium by myself.

I'm not a SAHM, but when I have days off I make sure to make them as fun as possible with my LO! So we do all sorts of outings.

I am another nanny and I love taking the kids to museums and such by myself. We have tons of fun and don't have to worry about the schedules of others.
