Not about my friends. Then again I have a very small group of friends.

Not regularly. One of my friends is really bad about returning phone calls/text messages/emails, so we will vent about that occasionally. But I'm never like, "So and so is such a bitch," because I wouldn't be friends with someone I thought was a bitch!

On a side note, I don't get why they redact/shorten the user names on there. Maybe so they don't come up in Google searches? But isn't the whole point of that site so people see it and then GOMI??

There are some things that probably should not be said directly to a friend. Otherwise you may change the dynamics of a friendship or lose a friend altogether. When judging and disecting someone's life or choices you should be really careful about the person you share with. A friend that finds out what you said has now been wrong twice: how you really feel and the betrayal of gossip. I don't think people speak ill to hurt their friends. People need an outlet to make sense of the world and that sometimes includes making sense of a friend/ friend's world. Same thing for GOMI, I don't think anyone intentionally thought the targeted people would read what was said about them.

To answer your question as I have matured talking smack about my friends (feeling is genuinely mutual friends) there's no need. What they do is not for me to scrutinize. I am guilty of maybe sharing something I shouldn't.

I definitely think gossiping is a part of life. I have been guilty of it before. I think @Mrs. Lemon-Lime: makes a really good point though, I don't think a lot of people gossip to hurt others, I think they do it to sort out their feelings on a certain topic or situation.

There are certain things that some of my friends have done that I just do not understand and a little vent session with another girlfriend is in order. I don't like to be a bitch or say anything hurtful and there are certain friends who I can talk to more about things than others.

I know I'm not perfect and I imagine my friends have had vent sessions about me and my ways, I know I can either be a little controlling and sometimes I'm too laid back and don't make a big deal about something they're passionate over. meh.

As for GOMI, they have made comments about me, that were funny because they don't know me. But in the end, it's another forum full of people just wasting their time on the internet with differing opinions. Some of them are spot on, some of them are ridic!

Yup, totally guilty! My college friends and I are always talking about each other. Sometimes it does make me wonder what they say about me behind my back, lol. None of it is mean though, we talk about how one girl doesn't make time for us, how one is always depressed about her life, etc.

I have before (let's be real, everyone has gossiped), but not regularly. I wouldn't be friends with someone that I needed to constantly complain about.

Its something I have done in the past. I was never too bad about but its still not a great thing too do. Now if I find myself talking to someone and another person gets brought up, I keep it positive.

I think anyone who said they never talk about someone else isn't being truthful with themselves. I'm sure everyone has moments where they need to vent about something they don't like.

I actually had someone try to convince me how great someone was, and they said the person NEVER says anything bad. Really fool? because I heard them talk about you...

Unfortunately, yes. Don't we all struggle with that to a certain extent, even minimally? I think it's part of human nature. I will say, though -- it's mostly to my husband! I try not to be catty about other women to other female friends. My husband usually will listen and then tell me when I need to stop, whereas we females tend to love to engage in drama. At least, that's what I've found with my friends!

@coopsmama: Hah, yes, that's what's great about complaining to DH - he totally calls me out when I'm being petty and puts a new perspective into my head!

This was like our main pastime when I was in college! The best slip ever was when on of my roommates accidently called our other roommate by her code name. But I know I too was the subject of a few sessions, so it's all good.

As for now, I mean, I love me some good gossip, but I don't go out of my way for it right now. Plus, my friends are all pretty mellow.

so I only have a few close friends - but yeah, I've definitely gossiped about people! who doesn't?

all my best friends are from completely different parts of my life so it's kinda nice. i can bitch/complain about them without worrying about it getting back to them. it's always innocent stuff like someone cancelled on me last minute, that kinda thing. my friends know i adore them and i wouldn't be friends with them if i didn't - but sometimes you gotta vent!

So I clicked never, but now I'm rethinking that answer. I have a couple of different groups of friends, and I might gossip about someone in one group to someone in another (people who barely know each other), but usually not in a mean way, more of a 'commenting on a situation I find interesting' way. I'd never gossip about friends to other people who are close friends with them, too. That feels too mean and bitchy, and I'd hate them to do the same with me.

My husband and I often discuss what, exactly, gossip is -- like is it any commenting on someone's life? (Like if I tell him so-and-so is trying to get prengnant, but don't tell anyone else, because she is being private about it...that's not mean-spirited, and I heard it from the source, but I am passing it on, so is that gossip? I wouldn't pass on something I'd been told not to, but if someone tells me something, there's a good chance I'll tell my husband, unless I'm asked not to.)
