Do you ever want to move??

I don't care for where I live. I live here because my family is here and last time I lived away from them for a year I was so homesick I was dealing with some pretty serious depression. It only took me a few months to decide I wanted to move back home.

However, now being married + baby - having my own little family, I feel like I'd be less apt to be so homesick. I don't like it here really and I often get an insatiable urge to just pack up and move somewhere else!!! Not sure where I want to live though :):)

I want to move! People seriously laugh at me when I say that because we live in Hawaii. I always wanted to move away from my hometown but now I'm so homesick I can hardly stand myself. It makes me so sad that my family doesn't get to see DS and I just miss them!

We lived in Kansas before moving here. I hated that there wasn't much to do there but it was nice to be able to drive home if we wanted to. It's so expensive to fly. I dont know if we'll get to go home anytime soon.

@Sweet T: especially from Hawaii!!
DH's family is in NY and even though we live in MN (a relatively cheap place to fly to/from) it is always at least $600 for us to fly to NY... and once DS is 2+ it will be even more! Ugh...

@Coco Bee: It is sooooo expensive! We looked into going home for Christmas but were looking at ~$3000 for 3 seats. It's a little bit better if you don't fly during the holidays but not much.

Since DH's ex gets visitation with my bonus son, we won't be moving anytime soon. Both of us would love to move out of where we currently are. We have discussed Boston or Chicago. Hopefully, one day we will be able to.

Yes. I'm tired of being rained on in the Northwest. DH has to be at his job for a few more years to get a certain certification to move. My sisters live in SoCal, Az and Tx--all places I wouldn't mind living and I really want to be close to them.

I miss living in/near the city! For awhile I really liked the smaller city life and felt it was great for family (not long drive times from work, errands don't take all day, etc) but now that we're moving to more natural living and changing what we eat I'm finding that it just isn't very accommodating.

Idk if we'll ever actually move though... I'm incredibly close with my mom and she is seriously my saving grace when it comes to mental health days away from the kiddos and DH and I having us time, I'm sure moving from her would be a huge adjustment.

We really love our city, so I don't know if we would ever move. It is very expensive to live here though, so if we ever want to own a house we will probably have to move...

Sometimes it bothers me that we are so far away from family, but this is where we met and fell in love, so it is hard to move away from that.

@runsyellowlites: agreed!! I think we eat similarly,, and it is a 45 minute drive to the nearest health food store and an hour to one of the awesome food coops supported by local farmers. I'd love to be closer to that.

Like you though- it is invaluable having my parents/sister here..

I want to move houses eventually because I want 3 kids and we're only in a 3 bedroom. But do I want to move cities ..... no way! Love it here!

Dh and my parents are here. My brother, sil, and new niece are here. Our town is awesome and everything I could ever ask for. Very family and dog friendly, always something going on, very artsy fartsy. My dream place to live.

Yup! For lots of reasons. I'd like my parents to come too though. They totally would my mom has suggested it in the past. But then I think of how much I love people that live here, and I chicken out!

Well, I feel like I've moved quite a bit, but we still are not in our "forever" place. I'm from Indiana, my husband is from the UK, we met in London when we both lived there, then moved to NYC, then Brooklyn, and in December we're off to Stamford, CT. It's kind of exhausting, especially with LO.

It's tough because we want to stay in the US (for now) and I would love to be close to my family, but I'm not sure about transitioning back to Indianapolis. Plus, my husband is totally not on board. So I think the answer is probably Chicago - still a great city, but much closer to my family.

We're definitely moving houses but probably not moving out of the area. We lived in MN for a year and we do miss it sometimes but it was so far from our families. We would love to live in New England though and would consider moving there if the opportunity came up (we currently are in the Southeast which is where we grew up).

Yes and no. We're close to my husband's side right now so of course I'm always homesick for my family. And then if we did not care about being near family we would LOVE to live in Chicago. But never in a million years could we move that far away from family.

I want to move CLOSER to my family. Not having them around is really hard. I want to move out of my neighborhood and into a different one. I would really like to move up north but then we would be even further from my parents.

I hate moving! But, we are also looking to move in the next 5 - 10 years to a better school district and a house with a bigger back yard!

We just bought a house in May (and that whole process was a huge pain), so I told DH we are not moving for a reeeeally long time! I wouldn't want to move anyways, though. I love our neighborhood, we're in a great school district, and about 30 minutes from my family. We live in a big city, but we're in Texas so the cost of living is quite low. I feel like we have the best of both worlds.

ETA: DH is from Chicago, and he said after being spoiled by the weather here, he could never move back up north!

We have agreed we will stay in FL because both our families are here, but we would like to move closer to water.

Also, right now we live close to IL's but I would like to move more closer to my parents. Maybe somewhere in between.

All the time. We've always wanted to move to Vancouver but the cost of living his higher out there and we would make less money. We keep hoping that an amazing opportunity would come up so we could get out there sooner, but right now it's in our 5 year plan. We would be moving away from family and friends but we know we would love being in Vancouver.

I like where we live right now. Abundance of everything, including opportunities. However, hubby and I always talked about moving to Colorado because of their super active lifestyles (mountain biking, hiking, skiing/snowboarding). I wouldn't mind living closer to family because I miss them like crazy, but the opportunities just aren't as bountiful. They're making progress in improving this, but still.

some days i tell DH if he can get a job out of state, do it! but i'd probably gate being away from family. but we do want to move, relatively soon, to a different neihborhood and a bigger house!

I want to move back to California soooooooo badly. I only lived there three years but I get homesick for it all the time. Unfortunately, my husband will never move away from his family. While I love where I live, I kinda feel trapped since we'll probably always live here. On the bright side, at least its cheaper to live here than Cali!!

It took a while to get used to living in GA, but you're right about feeling less homesick now that we have our own little family.
I missed my family and friends SO much when I first moved..
After I had LO the crazy missing stopped (I still wished they were close though).
Now when I visit family in CA (I lived there for 29+ years) it doesn't feel like home anymore. Just feels like I'm visiting family.

I definitely want to move out of our current apartment at some point-- it's only 1 bedroom, so hopefully that won't cut it too much longer! But we are maybe 60/40 about moving areas. We are in Boston now and will eventually want a house with a yard, which means the suburbs. But my family is all in the NY/NJ area, a 4-5 hour drive away. I'd love to be closer to them, but I also know that realistically, living in NY wouldn't be better for us as a couple so I prioritize that (DH just isn't a NYC guy). So we will probably stay here, unless a great work opportunity came up for DH. No matter what, we will have to be near a major city, both for his work and for our own preference. He's love Chicago or somewhere in CA, but I think they are too far from my family. Right now, our requirement for a move is that he makes enough more money that flights back to visit our family will in no way break the bank.

I've lived here for 7 years its 45/60 min away from home where my mom still lives & my brother's fam lives 4 hours away. DH & I have talked about moving away but I don't foresee that ever happening. At first we wanted to stay close to grandpa, now it's to stay close to mom. She has been talking about moving to town to be closer to us and any potential grand babies. It's important to us & her that she be able to experience being a grandma. She hasn't been able to see her other grand babies that much over the years and has missed out on a lot of experiences with them.

I was talking to DH about this yesterday! We just bought a house in the area I've lived all my life. I used to think I'd get the hell out of Dodge as soon as I was old enough to leave...but with DH, our baby, our new house (which I love!) and our families nearby, I've realized that I would be super sad if we ever left. Mainly because of family and our home.

I would LOVE to move but bc of DH'ss job we can't for at least 5 years. All of my family is back on the east coast and the Bay Area is just wayyyy too expensive! I want to be Able to get a big house with a lawn and upgrades and out here nice 2 bedrooms in a hood school district can be $700-900k :'(

I'd love to live in Austin or Nashville. I'm a southern girl originally and I love the heat!

We used to live on the east coast and both of our families are there and we are in Michigan so we really tight we would love here for 3 years tops and then move back east to a bigger city but now I hate that idea. We were just discussing it and even though my husband could easily find a job there the cost of loving is so high it is insane. To get a house comparable to ours in the DC metro area would be literally 5-6 times what we paid and we would probably stool need to pay for private schools!

I suspect if we do move anytime in the next 15-20 years it will be to a foreign country.
