Of course I think my LO is the cutest baby in the whole wide world. But I also know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and not everybody is going to think that way. I realize that it's ok, I don't need everyone to think my LO is the cutest. But I still want them to.

HAHA I worry about this. Our niece on DH side is one of the cutest kids I have ever seen, seriously! I worry our kid will be the "ugly" cousin out of the two...and even more I won't realize it because I'll have mom goggle on. However my Great Grandma says to this day "we don't have an ugly one in the bunch" and I can say she's pretty true in that! haha

Great question! I like to think I'm aware of where our kids are on the cuteness continuum... sometimes they look cute, and sometimes they go through a non-cute phase. I love them anyway though (as Olivia would say!).

Besides, everyone knows it's a unwritten rule of the universe that all mixed kids are cute.

I worry that people are lying to me when they say my kids are cute, just to be nice. (just so you know, I never do that... I'll always make some other comment rather than looks about a kid I don't think is cute, so please know that every compliment I give a kid here is sincerely heartfelt!)
But it is weird how some people think Lala is so cute and some people are totally focused on M., but the same person rarely comments on both. Makes me uneasy!
And I have one friend who never said that Lala was cute (not even once) and I thought it was just how she was... but she GUSHES over M. What does that mean?!

I sometimes try to look at her in the neutral eyes in order to see if everyone else thinks she is as cute as I do but as her mom I can never be neutral

@Mrs. Jacks: haha I totally think that too. That they say it just to be nice. Like you if I don't think a baby is cute (and not ALL babies are cute!) I'll just make a positive comment about something else.

Baby is not here yet. However, I have twin nieces and I secretly worry that I'll think one is more cute than the other. It hasn't happened yet, and I hope it doesn't ever! I would feel so terrible!

My baby is currently an almost 16 week old fetus.. so decidedly not cute yet : ) But I really worry about if the kid will come out cute. I LOVE my husband and I think he's super hunky... but if we're being honest, he wasn't the cutest baby on the block. And while I was pretty cute, I was bald for a REALLY long time. So I feel like my baby isn't destined to come out beautiful!

@MamaMoose: During labor the nurse & my husband told me baby had a full head of hair. I said NO WAY. I do not believe you. I was bald till I was 5! So I thought for sure she would be. I made them put a mirror up so I can see. Lo and behold, she has a full head of hair!!

@Mrs. Jacks: that is so weird and awkward.. well for what it's worth - I think both your little girls are simple ADORABLE. Seriously. They are beautiful and look so sweet.
I do the same thing, I won't comment on the cuteness if I don't really think they're cute lol. Say something like "look at the little hands!" lol I like baby handsI do. I know I shouldn't, but I do. Especially because my nephew is SO FREAKIN' CUTE. I'm not even saying this out of bias. He is A-DORABLE. He is half Peruvian, half caucasian, has a full head of adorable dark hair, big brown eyes, the sweetest,biggest smile in the world and rolls and rolls of lovely baby fat. On top of it, he has a killer personality - always laughing, smiling and "joking". At 9 months, he is the cutest baby I've ever met/seen in my life. No joke.
So I guess I worry that compared to Diego, my son isn't "as cute", even though I may think he is. If my sister and I are out together, it's so common for someone to comment on how cute Diego is, and not say anything about my son. So it does sting a little I guess.

FWIW my nieces and nephews are totally gorgeous too. One of my nieces is half Salvadorean, half American Caucasian and all the way beautiful. Luckily she's a lot older than my kids Secondly, thanks for the kind words about the girls! I have a really cute picture of M. that I'm going to put in a blog post soon...

I generally don't worry about what other people think because I think they're pretty darn cute. I do worry that people don't think my dd is as cute as my son though - including family. She has funky hair now and doesn't look like a baby girl, especially if I out her in some off DS's old clothes. But she's the cutest thing to me and I'm sure her hair will come in nicely soon!

I don't worry, per se. I do, however, wonder if my kid is ugly but I just don't know it because I'm her mother. LOL. Then my mom says, "No, she's sooo cute!" and then I say, "Well, of course she is to you because she's YOUR granddaughter!" Then we both sit there wondering if LO really is a cute one. LOL!

i worry about this and i'm not even pregnant yet!! everyone keeps telling us how gorgeous our babies will be, but now i feel like everyone has really high expectations that our LO may not live up to!
i was a stunning baby (creepy to say about yourself, but i was), but DH was a homely baby, but ended up being super cute by the time he was a toddler & is a very attractive man now. i think DH's genes are going to be stronger than mine (we're a biracial couple, people in his family all share a strong resemblance, people in my family do not), so our LO will probably look more like him and there is a good chance it will be an ugly baby like he was. i tell him i anticipate having an ugly newborn that turns into a very good looking child/adult, that way i won't be shocked or disappointed when our LO comes out less cute than i imagined.
i need to start telling people our babies will be ugly so they expect less of us, lol =D

It was SO funny when my goddaughter was born. All the midwives were oddly quiet until the dad came in and looked at the baby. "She... looks like John Prescott." Everyone breathed a sigh of relief. She was one UGLY newborn. Now she looks like a miniature Billie Piper. Her little brother started off cute as any baby and now, well.... he's got a nice personality. I know that whether my baby is pretty or not, it'll still be adorable on some level, and the appearance as a baby does not necessarily reflect their appearance as they get older.

Nope, I don't worry about it because I know LO doesn't care. I also think funny-looking babies are a trip, so I don't mind the times when I look at LO and think "Hmm. you look a little bit like crazy gnome."
I will feel bad if he is a funny-looking 12 year old, because then he'll know it too, and it will probably bother him. -
Ever since I saw the Seinfeld episode about the ugly baby, I was scared that mine might be. And I didn't know if people would say she was cute when they were really thinking she was really ugly. Now, I don't care, she's adorable to me and that's all that matters

I doubt I'll care what people think. I'll certainly be blinded by my own genetic brilliance, and won't be sending the kiddos off to Toddlers & Tiaras. Besides, it seems like less attractive babies turn into more attractive adults. In that case, let my kid be the ugliest baby you've ever seen!

When my twins were born they were a little ugly. I know most moms don't say that but they were so skinny. They looked a little like ET. I could see all their skull plates and all the soft spots it was so gross. Once they got a little meat on their bones then they were super cute but it took a few weeks
