I don't expect much career growth if I stay at my current job but I think I'm ok with that because I have a lot of flexibility. There is an opening for a new position at work but it requires FT hours at the office and more responsibility.

I am working on a cover letter right now for another internal position. Any templates any one wants to share?

Nope, but I get to work from home FT so that's the trade off. It's definitely worth it, though. I'll have 2 kids soon and working from home is going to be even more invaluable!!

Yes, there is a career ladder at work that each department follows. Currently I'm on rung 2 out of 5, and I'm hope hope hoping that I get moved up to rung 3 in April! If not, there is usually 1-2 postings in other departments every month, I can always go sideways!

@Andrea: Nice! I would take a pay cut if I could work from home.
Do you have your LO in daycare at all?
GOLD / wonderful coffee bean / 18478 posts
@Thehistoryofus: yup, I took a pay cut!
Oh yes to daycare, I could not work at all during the day if she was at home. Girlfriend stopped napping early on!

not with my day job, but i'm looking to go out on my own sometime next year after LO arrives. hopefully it's sooner than later!

Nope, I don't plan on going back to the traveling aspect of my job so that will put a hold on me gaining any ground in my position. I'm totally okay with it.

I am aiming for career growth in the near future hopefully! I have had 4 interviews in the past 2 months! Hopefully something will come along soon!

Is this too lame for a cover letter? I have worked with the manager on several projects over the past few years. It is an internal position, probably a lateral move but in a different area:
Please see my attached resume as application for the position of Coordinator of xxx in xxxx System. I am applying for this position based on my xxx years of experience with the xx Department and my ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position.
In my current role as xxx, I have had extensive experience managing and overseeing multiple projects, some of which included participation of xxx System. Many of these projects and assignments were completed under tight and often overlapping deadlines. Majority of my work has been completed through collaboration with cross divisional teams and reporting and communicating with internal and external stakeholders.
I feel that I would be qualified for this position based on my past experience and general knowledge, skills and abilities. My main goal in all of my work is to achieve the highest level of quality possible and to help our team achieve the highest xxx for the xxx.

No, I'll be taking a step back since I'll be a SAHM at the end of the summer. I don't think I'll come back to this kind of work once the kiddos are older, I'll probably make some kind of career change.

Nope. I took my job for the flexibility because my husband and I have planned for me to be a SAHM since we got married. We were TTC when I graduated college so I didn't actively look for a job. I'm glad I have one now since TTC is taking so long. I need something to do!

No. I work for a very small company so there isn't a whole lot of opportunity (if any at this point) for advancement...which is totally fine by me--some of my other coworkers? Not so much.

I was just recently promoted before our company put itself up for a joint venture. Since the company was struggling, my raise for my new position was hardly a raise. I'm hoping to advocate for a higher salary soon, but it might be too soon. =(

I cut my mat leave short and took a career jump. I have room to grow and learn with flexibility, but I know I could be paid more in the private sector. Trying to decide if I want to take on more responsibility and potentially a larger commute or just stick with what I have until my baby (and potentially another baby) is older.

@Thehistoryofus: not lame at all - I think it's very well written and appropriate!

I'm due for a promotion in probably the next 2 years, I'd imagine. Getting my masters actually pushes me into the "could be promoted" region soon, but I'm not to the point where I feel like I deserve it. The company is very top heavy right now (lots of old people making lots of mulah) so they're slowing down on promotions for those of us in the lower 3 brackets. But I don't really mind because all it is is "level 1 vs. level 2 vs. level 3" and my job stays the same. I do get a pay raise every year, so I just don't mind that much!
My husband, however, is due for a promotion to level 3 sometime soon and the pay raise would be awesome if it came soon!!!

i expect to grow in my role (just started a new job 3 months ago that was pretty much a promotion compared to my old job), but i really don't want to advance. i wish i could work less! but the hubs said i should have married a doctor if i wanted not have to work.

I was told that I'll be getting a substantial raise in May, when my boss turns 66 and takes his SS as long as I get one more license.
I think he'll work for about 3 more years, then I'll be switching careers. Wish I knew what "substantial stands for on his terms!".
