Travel for 2 and above, no. Food? Yes.

I think this is really tricky - there are so many different ways to think about it. I'm with @sunny: on travel. A seat on a plane or train is a seat; no matter how light or small a child is, their using it means someone else can't. So I don't really think they deserve a discount. I'm not saying I want to pay for my toddler's subway ticket, because I don't, but I can see how it might make sense to charge - little kids actually almost always are offered a seat, yet they don't require an actual ticket!

I feel like for places like Disney/theme parks/the zoo, it's nice when there is graduated pricing relevant to how much of the resources a child of a certain age is really able to enjoy. For example, under 2's who can't really do much of anything are free or a token amount, under 6's (randomly picked that) who are too short to do a lot of the rides are maybe half-fare, and older kids/adults are full price. To some extent, younger kids HAVE to be there so that the older ones can, and that's when I think they really deserve a break. That's why I love family passes/memberships that let you get 2-3 adults, plus all the kids, in for one price.

It's definitely a little frustrating to take my almost-four year old to the Science Center and pay full price when really all she can use is the toddler room (she's too short for some of the big attractions, like an infinity climber, and many exhibits are over her head)

Buffets should always be at a discount, IMO....I guess maybe places that don't offer one are considering the wasteage with young kids? Because I imagine a lot of people just pile their plates with a ton of different things, hoping the toddler will eat SOMETHING?

Generally, no. They're using the same resources so should pay. I do think parents should get into certain places free though. I took DD to the children's museum today and we both had to pay, even though all I did was watch and make sure she didn't get hurt! I get the zoo and aquarium I pay because I participate more, but the children's museum? No!

I think part of this comes from cultural expectations. Where we live, and I think it is true for much of Europe, kids, teens and young adults get discounts all over the place, so there is an expectation/understanding that kids/young people don't pay full price. Most museums are free until age 18 and then there are often student discounts until well into the 20s. Public transit where we are is free until age 6 and then "students" get reduced fare until age 26! Now that we have to buy 4 tickets for air travel, I am grateful for reduced fares for our LOs, even if it isn't that much. We have flights booked for May and the kid fares are about $85 less per ticket than the full adult fare. I just booked a hotel yesterday and their child policy wasn't clear so I emailed them. I didn't know if we could book a regular room for 2 adults and 2 kids or if we had to book a villa. Luckily, because of our kid's ages, we were allowed to book a regular room, and only pay one food supplement instead of two (which is reasonable considering our 2yo barely eats). If we had been obliged to book the villa, which was more than double the room, we wouldn't have stayed at that resort. I think it's reasonable that children under a certain age (6? 8?) are allowed to stay in the room with their parents either for free or with a reasonable supplement.

There is this wonderful farm by us but they charge a very high admissions fee per person as long as they're above 1! Which is crazy b/c even though my 15 mo can walk, she does not enjoy the park the way a 4 year old would.

In the opposite spectrum, this indoor play space in my town only charges the kids, so there can be as many adults in for free. And crawlers are half priced. I really like this b/c the adults obv are there to supervise and I don't have to pay for 2 adults AND a kid to watch a kid play!
