Haha this is perfectly normal!
I think if the names sound related it's fine.
As someone with a somewhat weird name and everyone else in my family with perfectly normal names... I never felt I was different except when we go on vacation and they all can find their names at gift shops and I could never find mine!
So I think whatever you decide will be perfect!

All I care about is that they go together. My name is a very traditional biblical, Jewish name. My sister's name is completely made up with a super frilly nickname (that she always went by). I never understood this.

I don't think they have to match. I would only side-eye if a name were an ethnic name that were super different to the family's origins. Like a WASP american naming their kid Xao Ling Smith.
I mean, theoretically, I support any parent's choice to name their kid whatever they want as long as it isn't a slur or offensive. Theoretically.

No, not at all. The only thing I cared about was that they didn't start with the same letter - I know some people do this on purpose but it's just not my style. I didn't want anything matchy-matchy. It kind of bugs me that their names are going to rhyme, but they're the only two boy names DH and I can agree on!

@wonderstruck: haha. I'm the same way about first letters. My husband suggested a name that starts with an M if we ever have a boy, and I was like NO! People will think we have a weird M fetish (LOs name also starts with M).

No. I dont think the origins have to match, but I do like siblings names to "go".

@Anagram: This is the problem we're having! lol. Our name for another girl would give both C and her (possible future) sister the same initials. UGH.

I agree, I think they should go, but not necessarily match. And it is never too early to look at names (or two?!)

@wonderstruck: HAHA we are the lamest family then... My first name rhymes with my husbands first name, and my maiden name rhymes with my married last name.... And both our kids names start with Ch-
The girls names weren't on purpose. I completely let my 2yo name her sister. She just happened to pick a real name and not something like Applesauce.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: my maiden name rhymes with my married name...I can't use it for a future LO's middle name because it sounds so funny. Also, Applesauce would've been an awesome name.

I wouldn't even think about the origin. I just want them to sound good together.

Nope, I don't really think about the origin. As long as they seem to go together, I'd use it.

Wow, yes actually. If we have another and it is a boy it will also be an old norse name. If we have another and it is a girl it will be a french name. Probably another Hawaiian middle for both... my roots!

Hmmmm probably not. It's hard enough for us to agree on a name, never mind having restrictions on origin and flowing with DD's name

I like them to go together, but I don't worry about origin. Also - I am so freakin excited for you!!!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: Haha, that's funny with all the naming! everyone I've mentioned it to looks at me like I'm nuts, so clearly this is just a weird quirk that I have. But I really really love the name Declan, so I can let the rhyming thing go since I don't want to change the name. They sound okay together though as far as both being names that have become more common recently...modern names, I guess you could say? As far as popularity goes, anyways. That's very cute about the older one naming her sister
That wouldn't have worked for us, the only thing my 12 month old says while babbling that all resembles a name is Bob. Not my style, LOL.

I didn't think about it. Although, after the fact, I feel like my two LOs have names that have a similar vibe and they go well together. They both have really classic names that are pretty international.
