I think some things get worse while others get better.

We've progressed a lot in our technologies, but I can't argue that it has necessarily improved our way of life. Progress doesn't always = improvement, unfortunately. With the ease of access to pornography online and online bullying, I think my children are going to be exposed to a lot of things they may not be emotionally ready for.

In terms of the economy, my children are definitely born into a worse time, but hopefully they will see improvements in our economic situation throughout their lives as opposed to what I had to witness which was a steady decline throughout my childhood.

I also think that 9/11 drastically changed a lot of people's (at least mine, for sure) sense of safety and security, and I'm sad that my children will have to deal with what happened on September 11th and the aftermath.

Some things are better and some worse, but overall, worse.

Hopefully things will get better though.

I think that it is just very different but not necessarily any better or worse overall.

Oh boy. My husband and I were just debating this this morning. We think it's worse. For us it's all economical. If things were the way they were back in the 80's, we could afford to live in a better neighborhood, have me stay at home with the baby longer than 3 months and probably have the same lifestyle. The lifestyle I'm okay with. It's the dealing with the fact that prices of everything has gone up but our salaries have not gone up to keep up that bothers us the most.

ETA: that being SAID...we are going to do our best to provide the best life possible for us and our family with what we have around us. I'm a cup half full, he's a cup half empty person so we get into these discussions a lot and I get to talk him down from a ledge a lot.

I don’t know if it will be better or worse over time (as a snapshot though, I think it's worse now), but it will be very different!

When I was born (1981), who would have known that in the 20 years following we would be involved in war and several military conflicts, we would experience that worst terrorist act in our history, and we would experience an economic golden period followed by a severe recession. When I was born, I doubt anyone but maybe Bill Gates and Steve Jobs thought that by the time I graduated from high school everyone (well, first world, middle class families mostly) would have easy access to computers in their homes, cell phones, laptops for work, etc.

So what will happen in LO’s world over the next 20 years and will it be better or worse than the last 20? I have nooooooooooo idea!

I know she will have to contend with plenty of things I didn’t have to worry about – like online predators. Those scare me a lot. Technology gives kids access to so much that they are not emotionally ready to handle. Oh, and the skank clothes they make for little girls these days really bug me. We wore big, oversized t-shirts and leggings when we were little….not hip huggers (hello, kids have no HIPS to hug!) and shirts with suggestive phrases, or suggestive phrases splashed across the butt of sweatpants.
