I usually modify...less salt, less oil and MORE garlic!

I improvise when I don't have something. But generally, I do.

Eh, sometimes? I almost always double the garlic. Sometimes I follow them loosely, sometimes I change so much that I wonder why I even pulled it out in the first place.
Except when I'm baking, I very strictly follow baking recipes.

Yup, otherwise, I don't know how to cook. LOL! I'm like you though @autumnlove: , I always add tons more garlic and make some modifications/substitutions (aka Greek yogurt for sour cream, Pam spray instead of tbs of oil, etc).

Yes! I'm a terrible cook, and don't know enough about anything to improvise.

I love garlic! I follow recipes only when I'm baking!

Not unless I'm trying something specific. I usually modify some.

I modify with spices or adding more stuff but I don't get too creative because I'm not all that comfortable with the creativity aspect of cooking

I usually follow a recipe the first time I try something then I make modifications.

@Oceanis723: That's exactly what I do. And if it's a recipe I got off the internet, I always read the comments for tips on making it the first time.

For baking, I pretty much always follow a recipe. For cooking, I usually just use the recipe to get an idea for measurements, temp, & cooking times.
@Oceanis723: I do that sometimes too, especially if the reviews are good.
@belleoftheballe: same here! The comments always help!

Only for baking! I can't think of any time I have followed a recipe for cooking, I generally just wing it.

I don't use recipes for main dishes, I don't have the time to devote to that right now. I almost always omit garlic and lower the salt and seasonings, especially now since I am cooking for my picky toddler.
If I am baking, yes, I refer to the recipe, because the outcome really changes if you make a mistake there (most of the time).

Nah, I usually always substitute with what I have on stock and taste as I go along. If it's a dish I'm roughly familiar with, I just read the ingredients and don't bother with measuring them. But if it's a new dish entirely, I usually try to follow the measurements and then adjust it if and when I cook it next.
cantaloupe / 6730 posts
For baking, I follow, for cooking, I like trying out new recipies, but I don't measure a lot of things, especially spices (so I probably end up putting more in).

I always add more onion and more garlic than called for but I can only cook if I follow a recipe.

Not by a lot, but I'll do little things. Or take the cheese out, DH can't have dairy. And I'll use white chocolate instead of chocolate because I can't have chocolate.
