Oh god, everyone. So annoying.

ME TOO. I hate them. New parents are the worst offenders that I've seen (how quickly we all forget!), since I'm pregnant, so if I even mention having trouble sleeping while pregnant (or getting up in the middle of the night), I get LOTS of just you waits. As if I don't know?! Ugh.

@sorrycharlie: Thank you!! We need more new moms with THIS kind of just-you-waits!!

Yeah, they aren't even true. A few examples:

Just you wait, your house is going to be a mess and over run by toys - false.

Just you wait, you'll never have time to kick back and read the paper again - false.

Just you wait, you won't be able eat at restaurants anymore - false.

It is so negative. I just think it is a short way of saying "get your head out of the clouds---you're life won't be errrr than mine." I think parenthood and all of its struggles should be welcomed with "it'll be so worth it" and "these are the best dad of your life" instead of negativity.
And by the way: it's usually the miserable people who say it and they almost ..wish it on you! (that's the vibe I get)

Ugh, constantly. It's so annoying. I agree with @shopaholic: it's like they're trying to discourage us from having kids. You annoyed the sh!t out of us for 3 years to get pregnant, and now that we are you're going to try to convince me how terrible it's gonna be?! Thanks!

I got those all the time. So many of them never came true. Wagon Jr. never developed stranger anxiety, never stopped sleeping thru the night for whatever reason... I think a lot of parents say these things to project their frustration of their experience on others! And of course to warn them. I sometimes catch myself doing it and I have to stop myself. I always try to tell people "...but your kid might have no problem with this! Don't stress about it until it actually becomes a problem, otherwise you might stress for no reason at all."

All the time and mostly from my mother, lol.

Just you wait! You're going to love parenting and have a wonderful time! God, I hated, HATED these. So condescending and sad. I found that they said a lot more about the people saying them than my actual experience.

I get it from co-workers. Also from close friends. I don't understand. Aren't all kids different? If I keep waiting, what if it never happens??? I just try to ignore it....

We're not even preggo yet, but have started telling some people that we are TTC because we get questioned all.the.freakin.time, and sure enough, we get the "just you wait" comments constantly already. Oi vey!
