LO is 12 months and at her last appointment, our pediatrician said we could give her whole milk or 2%. We chose to go with whole, but I'm wondering if I should switch so that I won't have to buy separate 2% for DH...

We're a whole milk drinking family.
DD is 26 months old and drinks whole. I'm 33 and I drink whole milk too

I read somewhere that 2% (or really, reduced percent) isn't really any better for you than whole. Tell your husband to switch to whole and drink whole as a family!

Agree with regberadaisy - I'm surprised your ped recommended 2% for a 12 month old. What % weight is she?

With my patients I say whole until age of 2. Having said that, my 3 year old doesn't drink milk, so we are very creative with lots of other products.

P drinks hemp milk which has just about the same fat & cal as whole milk, more calcium, and a bit less protein. She likes it. =)

We have whole. Our daycare provides 2% but we send whole milk to daycare for her.

DS gets whole milk and I buy 2% for me and DH. Our pediatrician said whole was best but it wouldn't hurt if he had 2% once in a while (like if we were out to eat and they didn't have whole). I'm surprised your pedi recommended 2% for full time consumption!

We did whole at age 1. When he turned 2 we switched to 2%, but he wasn't gaining weight (still hasn't at age 3.5...) so we switched back to whole. That being said, when we run out of whole, we give him our skim lactaid and he doesn't notice the difference. Kid loves his milk.

Whole milk! (I often sneak some of her organic whole milk, rather than drinking my 2%. It's so yummy!)

Whole milk. And...should I admit this? We sometimes put a little cream in too! (Just a little.)

Whole milk as per our pediatrician's recommendation. She also drinks breast milk and almond milk.

We do whole for L and skim for DH and I. Although we did stop buying cream and use the whole for our coffee.

@lisa1783: She's only 60%!
Our pediatrician said she will switch to 2% when she's 2 anyway so we could feed her either until then.

@BananaPancakes: my ped said 2% too...
But then again, my son is a really goo d size, wasn't a premie and then on top of things: had MSPI.
I also mentioned to my ped that I never drink whole milk and it is not something I am used to, and then he said, there is nothing wrong with 2% milk for a baby once they get to 1yr and stop formula.

Whole milk because DH drinks it as well. I buy skim milk for myself.

@TurtleDoves: I think mine recommended it because that's the new suggestion for kids who have heart disease and high cholesterol in their family. My FILs had like 3 heart attacks, and my ped knows the family.
