Whenever Charlie has a messy poop, I always tell him that we have to "wash your booty." Then I take him to the tub and break out the heavy duty soap. 
This morning was a particularly foul poop, and so Charlie looked me and said, "Wash booty?" I had to laugh! He usually resists a good booty washing, so he must've known that it was a bad one haha.
Do you handwash your LO's booty after a messy poop?

Nah, I just use as many wipes as I need to to clean it up and then give her a good scrubbing at bath time. She's only 4 months old so her poops aren't too crazy.

No, I just use a whole pack of wipes! And once its clean, I go over it just to make sure!

I love Charlie's comment. My LO's poops aren't that bad so we don't need to wash her booty. Haha.

When I nannied I would sometimes use a sink sprayer on warm to spray off their especially messy butts and then towel dry. It's cheaper and easier then going through a ton of wipes!
Note: On older babies/toddlers. I didn't spray down newborns, but they also didn't have many bad poops.

@mrbee: LOL. I love his comment. I don't have a baby (yet) but I think I'd go the handwashing route. Just seems easier.

Yup, I've done it more times than I can count. We have our changing table in the bathroom for this reason. I couldn't fathom just relying on wipes.
