I was looking for one earlier this summer an ended up getting the 31 utility tote
Holds a lot but wish the handles were longer

Yes, we use a Large LL Bean Boat and Tote! Long handles, open top.

Big huge canvas tote from LL Bean. Holds everything you could possibly want and I don't care if it gets dirty or if something spills.

I have a rugby stripe boat & tote LL Bean bag (one that zips). Have had it for years and use it all the time...overnight trips, beach tote, etc. Love that thing!

@mrs. wagon: @septca: I was looking at the LLbean Boat and Tote X-large! How large is the large? Enough to hold a few towels, sunblock, water, snacks, baby powder?

@chopsuey: I had the medium zip, which gets a little bigger because the panels with the zipper kinda stand up and make the bag a little taller. But it wasn't enough for our swim stuff. So I got the large, no zip (because I wanted to be able to just throw things in and out) and it is perfect for our swim stuff. Two rolled up towels, 4 swim suits, 2 puddle jumpers, sunblock, couple bottles of water, some snacks, 2 pairs of flip flops, sun hats. With the puddle jumpers it is pretty full (almost overflowing) but I always carry a separate diaper bag too. I haven't taken them to the beach yet
so we haven't put in sand toys yet. That may need to go into a separate plastic bag until I splurge on the x-large. I'm a new england girl so I need one in every size

I am a new englander and won't even tell you how many llbean boat and tote bags I have, but if you are looking for a hold everything, I would go for the extra large. It's huge, but with the large I have a hard time fitting more than3 large beach towels, toys, diaper items, etc. My kids use the large for their travel bags though and they are perfect for that.

@chopsuey: I have the large zip. It can comfortably hold 3-4 towels rolled up, sunscreen and a couple of water bottles. It kinda tight with all that and 4 towels, so you may want to go with the XL.

we're going to the beach next month and I wanna leave my diaper bag in our room. I like zip tops, but wanna be able to just throw things in too. will go for the x-large open! too bad it doesn't come in more colors though

@chopsuey: I have the XL. It does not zip.
It holds: 3 beach towels, lunch + snacks, water bottles, sunscreen, my wallet/keys/phone/whatever, my book, and a change of clothes. So, yes, EVERYTHING.
ETA: Secret LL Bean knowledge - you can get your monogramming in a different color than your bag, which is kind of cool. I have a red bag with a light blue mono.

I love my Baggu Duck bag. I used it for a all weekend music festival last weekend, use it to run errands and as an overnight bag. Plus it's only $24 and has an over the shoulder strap, it's a win.

I am the odd person out, but i prefer two smaller bags rather than one big bag.

I have a million canvas totes from being in various wedding parties. The ones that I like best for the beach are giant and don't zip. They fit rolled towels sticking out, sand toys and diaper bag supplies.

I've had mine forever. It's from Old Navy, and it's made out of mesh so that if it gets sand in it, the sand can fall out. It's a large, one pocket tote, and I can fit a ton of stuff in it.
so we haven't put in sand toys yet. That may need to go into a separate plastic bag until I splurge on the x-large. I'm a new england girl so I need one in every size
