Now that LO is here DH and I are reconsidering our emergency plans (or lack thereof). We live in a 3 story apartment building. We have a "townhouse" style apartment that starts on the second story. So there is someone below us and we have the top two stories.
We're considering getting a portable emergency escape ladder in case of fire or severe earthquake. Do you have one? Do you have recommendations?

We have a one story house, but I think if we were up higher, like you, I'd get one.

No. And now I'm wondering if we should. We are on the 3rd floor and right next to the stairwell to outside but if the fire was in the hall I guess we would be out of luck.

We have a ladder in our room under the bed, but I don't think it's ever been out of the box and I have no idea how to use it.

Maybe I shouldn't have started looking at this stuff. Now I want this baby rescue bag but for a lot less money.
I'm usually not an over-protective person at all. Being a parent makes it so hard to draw the crazy line.
I did see that there were lots of unused/unopened safety ladders on Craigslist from people that had moved. So 1) we could save money 2) there is a resale market if we move to single story.
Where is the line? Am I nuts for wanting this stuff?
