I don't think I've ever done this... it sounds like something grownups do. Guess I'm not grown up yet then!
Do you have a housewarming party when you move into a new place?

Define housewarming party.
When we moved into our house, all our friends came over and helped us pack the U-Haul Truck and then unpack it at the new place. We provided beer and BBQ and had a party after all the work was done. Does that count?

Just once! DH and I threw a couple of diff housewarming parties (diff groups of friends) when we moved into our house a few years back!

Only when we bought our house. We never had one before when we moved between rentals.

@mrbee: haha, okay, I didn't really think so. So no, we've never had one!

Yes we did. Two actually at our house! It wasn't until about 1/2 year after we bought the place b/c it took awhile to set up. But it's nice just to get together and invite everyone over to the new place. We even rented a bouncy house for the kiddos!

We never have before, but we just bought a new house and will host one after we move next month. It will sort of also double as a holiday party (will be held in December sometime), and as we will now live in a little private cul-de-sac community we figure we should probably get to know our neighbors since they will be all up in our biz unlike our current neighborhood!

We did! After my husband and I got married and settled in our house, we invited our friends over for dinner and games.

Nah, we just kinda invite people over to see our new place. Nothing fancy or really planned.

I've thought about this, but I feel guilty because I don't want to throw a party where people feel obligated to bring me a gift :S
We do have a Superbowl party every year though

@mrbee: lol... it was all DHs idea for kid entertainment. It was a hit though!

Yup! We provided all the food and alcohol, and invited friends over! We told them gifts were not necessary. Just wanted their company. We love any reason to host a get together at our house!

Yes, I love a good housewarming party! We had one about 2 months after we moved into our condo, back in winter of 2009.

Were moving into a new apartment this month and I'm planning in throwing one after the holidays!

We had one once. I was corrected by my etiquette-loving grandmother that it is incorrect to call it a "housewarming" when throwing it yourself as that implies gifts, and it is instead an "open house," so that's what we called it.

We've never had one--the last time we moved was to a new city where we didn't know anyone, so there wouldn't have been anyone to invite!

We didn't. 1. I was 8 1/2 months pregnant when we moved in so we weren't fully done with the house for awhile because I wasn't much help. And 2. We didn't want to feel like we were gift grabbing because we had gotten married, had a baby, and bought a house pretty close together so people already bought us lots of gifts for engagement, showers, and wedding.
