I don't. I'm the first of my good group of girl friends to get married, and to have a baby. I do have a couple of friends that are moms (literally, just a couple). But for the most part it's my friends that are obviously not at the same stage of life as me, and we're not so slowly drifting apart.
I'm assuming I'll make more mommy friends when my LO is a little older and goes to school. When did you start making mommy friends?

I have a group of mommy friends and we have nights out together, etc. These are NEW friends I have made since becoming a mom, though. I stress that because I have drifted apart from some of my friends from before even though they are moms, too. I find that if I don't agree with their parenting style then we have drifted apart and I have found new friends that are more similar to me now.

I have only one close friend who is a new mom, too. Actually, her LO is just 2 weeks older than my LO. It helps a LOT to have someone to talk to but she lives 45 minutes away from me but we try to see each other once a week or so.
I wish I had more mommy friends in real life.

@Rubies: One of my only mommy friends also lives 45 minutes away. But my dog has seperation anxiety so I hate to leave him for long periods of time to go over there. She just bought a pretty nice, huge house, and I think she feels like we should be utilizing it for play dates instead of my tiny house.

I have 2 mommy "friends" who live about 45 minutes away from me, but we're too caught up with our own lives to meet often. My SIL has a LO who's 2.5 months older than my LO, but we don't see them often either--maybe once every 2 months (they only live half an hour away too!).

@Andrea: Hmmm... I guess fortunately and unfortunately I started doing that when I got married. I get why it's harder to hang out with me because I'm a mom (they're always going to bars, movies, camping trips, etc.), but just because I'm a wife I'm not invited?

We met a number of other parents at the playground and at neighborhood block parties... it's been great because now we go on playdates with these kids and hang out with the parents at the playground sometimes.
It makes a huge difference in enjoying taking care of the kids!

my friends are half and half. but we've really made a lot of neighborhood mom/dad friends. some we met at the playground, some in charlie's classes. it wasn't until charlie was at least 10 months old that we started having a lot of playdates though. it was definitely easier to make friends and playdates once charlie was walking.

@Andrea: Yes. After I got married I told them how upset I was, and I ended up having a huge fight with my BFF. And we're pretty much no longer friends 
It's probably for the best though, like you said, you weed out the people who shouldn't be in your life anymore.

Alot of my friends have kids too but they are in CA and I'm in NY. We email alot though at that helps.
Locally, I've made mommy friends through my former workplace, the playgrounds in our neighborhood, the playroom downstairs in our apt building, and the parents of my DD's friends in preschool/Gymboree/self-defense class. I really love our neighborhood in that it's so easy to make friends with other parents and playdates are aplenty and nearby.
I didn't have as many connections when she wasn't in school yet though!

@artbee: wow, I can't believe that! That must have been so hard. I haven't fought with anyone .... just drifted apart over time. Have you gone on meetup.com? You can find a local mommy group and hopefully meet some cool people before your LO goes to school.

@Andrea: It was very hard! I cried for days, it was like grieving the loss of my friend. And she was pretty mean to me, it was a big mess We're civil now, just not good friends anymore. I'll have to check out meetup.com, I'd love to find a mommy group! Thanks!

@artbee: we did Gymboree last summer because of a Groupon. DD was 2 then. However, she started in a local developmental movement class (similar to Gymboree) at 4 months. I wanted to take her that early because I was on a 6month maternity leave at the time and wanted to take her to a class before returning to work. At 6 months I took her to a baby signs class. All fun! I'm looking forward to taking my youngest now because I don't want to get too stir crazy this winter!

Not yet. Most of my friends don't have kids though I'm awkwardly trying to make friends with some mommies I see once in awhile out and about.

@artbee: I am in the same boat as you. Second of my close friends to get married, first to TTC. I did sign up for local meet-up boards exactly for this purpose, I'm not actively participating yet, but I will once our future LO is here.

About half my friends are mommies already or becoming mommies. It's great to have friends who know what you're going through, and hand-me-down and arounds are totally awesome!

Yes and No. I really find it hard to maintain friendships right now, because of DS's naps. It's really hard to go to a regular playgroup because they are usually during nap time, and after the struggles we had with sleeping, I don't want to disrupt it too much.

Most of my friends I've made since moving to the UK are mommies. The military atmosphere really promotes people banding together for support, so there are a bunch of different "mommy groups" to join. I happened to find a couple good friends in one and then I've also gotten to be good friends with my neighbor.
I was the first to get married and now the first to have a baby, so most of my friends back home are single. My BFF is in a serious relationship though.

@artbee - I would definitely look into mommy groups in your area. Someone recently told me about a huge website I had no clue about in my area - trianglemommies. While I haven't utilitzed it yet (it's cumbersome to say the least, maybe there is something like that in your area? Also, are there any meetups near you?
I worry about this a lot.l have one friend who has kids but she and her husband have never tried to go out of their way to come to us since having the kids. I am pretty sure once we have our baby, we'll fall apart b/c we won't want to still be the ones going over there! I'm hoping to find mommy friends through the two groups I mentioned already. I'll keep my fingers crossed you find some ways to meet people soon!!

In our group of friends, we are the only ones with a baby. It's hard sometimes because we no longer get invited out. And our married friends who plan on having kids aren't having them anytime soon!

@Mrs. D: We don't have that many babies happening at the same time. And I just worry that I'd give all my stuff to someone and then get pregnant the next day and be screwed. They'll get a shower though and get whatever they need, just like I did.
@Mediagirl: I have only looked into meet ups a little bit. I'll have to look more into it. It's a great idea! I have a friend like that too, we always went to them since they had a baby. I thought since I have the baby now and she has a toddler she would make an effort to come to me, but not so much.
@Rubies: It sucks seeing all your friends hanging out without you! I'm always seeing on facebook that they're going camping, having movie night marathons, going to dinner, etc. I understand that I can't go to these things and I'm happy with my life now, I'd much rather have my LO then do these things. But I still do miss hanging out with them.

No, I don't have a lot of mommy friends but I need to get some! We had originally planned on moving next August so we weren't going to get too attached to here. But you know what they say about the best laid plans, so we'll be here for a few more years.
I just don't know what age is appropriate for a playgroup. I have a 4 month old and that just seems too young! A lot of people say to go to church to meet people, but I don't want to be holding a restless LO the entire service and most places don't offer childcare this young.

@sbjmorgan: My LO is also 4 months. We went to a temple thing that was for ages 6 and under. Only one other baby came, and he was 9 months so he was crawling all over the place while my LO napped and ate the whole time. At least I tried!
