Do you have a piano? I want a baby grand piano for our formal living room. My parents have one and I love it.

Nope, we don't play so don't want to take up the space.

The piano (not grand) that I had when I was young moved to the US with us from Asia and it's still at my parents house! Plan on stealing it if DD will have piano lessons one day!

We have an electric upright (it's not a keyboard, but an actual piano). My husband is/was a pianist. Once we have our forever home, he wants a baby grand.

I always had a piano in our home growing up. A Baldwin, I even remember picking it out in the 80s with my sisters!
We'll be getting one soon...

We are planning to get a small upright at some point, but for now we use Hubs' keyboard. My parents have one and D loves it, and I always used to find playing the piano kind of therapeutic, so I'm hoping we can find a good quality used one soon.

@winniebee: we are inheriting the one from my parents but they may gift it to us earlier. If not, I definitely want one.

Hubs' grandparents are giving us their baby grand! I'm excited, but we don't have anywhere to really put it!!

We inherited one with our house and it is such a space suck!
I think the reason why i don't like it is because it's not a shiny black one, it's oak colored.

We do, but it's not a baby grand. It's an electric, full size that can play different instruments like grand piano, electric piano, harpsichord, organ, etc. It also allows you to change the volume so I can play quietly if DS is sleeping or record my playing and have it play it back to me. It also has a built in play list of like 100 classic songs so I can just let the piano play itself during a party if I want soft background music.

We have a full grand Yahama C5. DH bought it before we met, and I tell him it's why I married him (he's a musician, but we both play). It is big and loud, but amazingly DD (13 mos) doesn't wake up when he plays after her bedtime. She will take lessons when she's older, but she does like to "play" on it now

Yup! We've got an upright. I have wanted one for my entire life and we finally moved into a house with room for one (just)! I'm having it tuned the week after next and then, finally, I will be able to play it!
@Greentea: Mine's a Hamilton, which used to be the same company as Baldwin.

We have the one that my mom learned to play on when she was a child (and my sisters and I and my cousins as well.). My parents have a square grand piano that has been in my dad's family for 100+ years. I would love to have it when they are ready to get rid of it, but we have nowhere to put it.

Yep, we have a Yamaha baby grand in our living room. DH is a musician and while piano isn't his primary instrument, he knows how to play. He insisted on getting one soon after we bought our house and kept checking Craigslist -- he went to see a few he didn't end up liking and then found this one. It takes up a ton of space but it makes him happy, and DD loves it too. She's been "playing piano" basically since she could sit up.

Yes. My DH is the pianist in the family so I don't know much about it.

@lawbee11: I can't play at all. I'd love my kids to know how to play.
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
Having grown up with one in the house, this is how I feel about baby grands, lol. A maestro, I am not.

Haha, no - we have a tiny city townhouse, so it wouldn't fit. (and I don't play)
I grew up with a piano (upright) in the house, and a grand piano at my grandparents' house. My brother took lessons at one point and pretty much everyone in my family plays piano.

Yes! We just bought one this summer. We bought it used and got an incredible deal. If you're looking, I seriously suggest looking around online at local listings. Sometimes you'll luck out and get one for free if you pay to move it!

We bought a Yamaha B2 a few months ago. I used to play the piano and DD takes lessons. She loves playing
watermelon / 14206 posts
Technically, yes. But, it's still at my parent's house, because I can't get anyone to help me move it. I've had it since I was 11. Just a little spinet piano.
grapefruit / 4291 posts
Yup, I have an upright Challen and it's a beast to move. I don't play as often as I should because it's pretty out of tune but I don't currently have spare $$ to get it done
honeydew / 7488 posts
My childhood upright piano is currently in my house. It does not match my décor at all but I think it's cool that my DD is learning on it just like I did.
@Cherrybee: my piano is also a Hamilton (Baldwin)!
If my kids ever wants a baby grand, they'll have to earn it. Those things are $$!

We don't, but I'd love to get one down the road. Secretly, I'm hoping I can buy the one I grew up with from my parents. We've got a variety of instruments, but I'd rather the girls start on piano when they're old enough for music lessons.
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
Nope, neither of us play so it doesn't make sense to have one.

We have one that I used to play. We moved earlier this yr into a new home and had the movers bring it over from my parents house. LO will start lessons when she gets older
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
No, but we have an 88-key electric keyboard that will be suitable for our kids to practice on at home. My husband plays piano and if our kids like playing & play well I'm sure he'll get them a real piano- most likely an upright though.
I used to babysit for a family that had a baby grand in their den. I'm sure all the kids played it, but it looked so lonely off to one side of the room surrounded by books.
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
We don't and I'm sad about it I've played piano since I was 7 and stil looove to play whenever I get a chance.
Once we get a house, i'll buy a piano. But I can't afford a baby grand!
pomegranate / 3160 posts
Even though nobody plays, I'd like to get a grand piano but feel it would obstruct my view of the original Monet paintings and marble busts that decorate our very large formal sitting room.
