I know quite a few people (of all ages) who have drowned to death. SO sad.
If you have a pool is it gated?
My parents have a pool at their house. We're going to have to keep a close eye on our LO when we visit this summer!

This is such a tough issue for me. We have a pool but it is indoor so there is no way to gate it. We are looking into having an electronic code to open the door installed. That way I shouldn't have to worry about the kids getting in.

We don't have a pool and I don't think we ever will. Our neighborhood as a public pool so when we have a LO we will teach them how to swim there because there is always a lifeguard on duty.

no, but i'd love one in our next permanent house. but the thought of losing my LOs to downing would most likely keep me from actually getting one. and the fact that it's so annoying to maintain.

No, we don't have a pool. We do live in an apartment complex that has a community pool. It's a perfect kind of pool!

We decided against a pool ...even though it's pretty hard to find a house without one in Florida! My parents have a pool and they just put a gate up.

my parents have an in-ground, so I grew up with one - then I moved into the ILs duplex, and they have an above ground, but it's attached to the deck that's attached to our back door (confusing). FIL put up a gate when DN (dear nephew? lol!) was learning to climb the stairs to the pool level.

No pool. We only get about 2 months of summer here. No one I know has a pool! We go to lakes and rivers to swim

@Rosie Girl: I've never gone swimming in a lake or river! I'm too chicken. Plus I don't like the idea of swimming with who knows what.

We don't but my in-laws do, and it's always locked if there are no adults around.

@tequiero21: Pools are the most annoying things to maintain! So expensive and they actually decrease the value of your house! -.- I'm happy my parents have a pool though. HAHA.

@chopsuey119: Even after growing up with it all my life, it still freaks me out a little! I won't swim if there is seaweed though, or logs. You never know what is lurking in there!

No, and I've known few people here to have one, although there are a couple.
We have so many lakes in our city, and are so near the ocean, that most people swim there instead.

We have a community pool as well. I think I would be too nervous to have a pool in my backyard.

I spoke with the man who takes care of our pool about child proofing it and he seems stumped. He suggested a small fence but its an indoor pool! I think that would look very odd haha

We dont currently have one but in our state its a requirement for them to be gated. My husband and MIL are a huge swimming family though and my husband could swim by age 2. My MIL will teach our LO as an infant as she did her children.

No and we never want one. The danger & cost make them so in unappealing to us.

@Chopsuey119 Yes I think an indoor gate might look silly haha! I guess I'll need a whole new door because right now there are french doors that lead to the pool room so I don't think I could put a code or lock on it at all. Maybe a heavy door with a code to lock and unlock won't be too unsightly. I'm glad you brought this topic up here as I wouldn't have thought about it yet otherwise.
