Mine is 8ish years old and still works well.

What kind of Asian would I be without one?!
3 years old from my wedding; before that it was a crappy one from Walmart that worked just fine too.

yes, but I have no clue how old it is. It was DH's and he's had it since we met, so it's at least 7 years old.

7 years old I think? Still going strong! I wanted to replace it but DH said no way!

I have one! It takes 10 years to cook brown rice!

I don't have one, I just cook my rice in a pot on the stove - are they amazing?

Yes and we just got a new one - Zojirushi - highly recommend.
Previously I had a 10 year old one I'd bought at walmart for under $10 while I was in college. I didn't realize how bad it had gotten until I bought a new one!

@autumnlove: HAHAHAHAHAAHHAHA
I've learned that it can cook brown rice under white rice setting too!
But I do half jasmine half brown bc DH doesn't like brown rice.

Yep! It's a rice cooker, slower cooker and risotto maker all in one! I
it!!!

@swurlygurl: it's the b@llz. But I would still make rice for latin dishes in a pot!
@Mrs squirreld: how do you make risotto in your rice cooker??
bananas / 9973 posts
Of course! I JUST opened a new one this week. My ILs didn't like that the pot was scratched in our old one and gifted us a new Zojirushi one! So high tech in comparison to my old one!

@locavore_mama: Really? I have a Zojirushi...I'll try it!

Yep, and I think it's 2 years old? 2 1/2? I love it. I made fun of it at first but when I got pregnant it was all I could eat!

I've had our Zojirushi for almost 5 years. I love it dearly
Although I've never thought of cooking brown rice in it haha. I've done mexican rice.. but never brown!
pomelo / 5607 posts
Yep, got it as a wedding gift 4 years ago and still use it all the time!
grapefruit / 4400 posts
Nope-- I just use the old "water level up to my first knuckle" trick and cook all my rice on the stove. Old school!
pomegranate / 3401 posts
My mom gave me one when I left for college....14 years later it broke when we moved!
I think the box got dropped or something. So now I'm in search of a new one! @autumnlove, which Zojirushi one do you have?
clementine / 830 posts
No. I am Chinese, so is my DH. I am probably the only one of my kind.
honeydew / 7917 posts
I have a 3 cup rice cooker that was gifted to us from our wedding three years ago. DH wants to upgrade to 5 cup, but I think it's too big.

Yup and my aunt gave me hers because she likes the stove top method. I don't know how old it is. Probably about 7 years old at this point.
nectarine / 2274 posts
Yes I think it's about 7 year old.
@locavore_mama: I get a type of brown rice that taste just like white rice. Will send you a pic when I get home .

Ours is 3 or 4 yrs old from Costco. The teflon inner pot is getting scratched up though... not sure how to replace it without getting a whole new rice cooker!

We have a small one but it's the perfect size for us. It's almost 2 years old.

We have 3.
My aunt keeps forgetting that she's already bought us one, and gets us one every Christmas.
I think my brother has 5 LOL

@autumnlove: Our Zojirushi has settings for: white, mixed, brown, sweet, porridge, and sushi.
@mamabear57: Send it to me too!

So mine died this evening. (Yes, Mr. Jacks might have inadvertently dumped a cup of rice-y water into the bottom without the bowl in it). Yikes! Ours was cheap and old... 2006.
Now I'm in the market for a new one. Any recs? I'm looking at Zojirushi at this point but am open to other suggestions.

We have two. It was one of the few small kitchen appliances DH had before we met. We don't use them though and they're at least 8 years old.
hostess / wonderful watermelon / 39513 posts
@shopaholic: mine does too but it takes hours to cook brown rice. Does yours have the cake function...I've never used it!
bananas / 9973 posts
@autumnlove: IDK - I'll have to look for that! I have only figured out how to cook regular rice and set the clock so far. lol. We've only been using it a few days.
