Dh works in banking and a previous company had a catalog that employees had to order from for branded ties, dress shirts, blouses, etc. they also had to wear a black suit only w blue (catalog) shirts. Ridic!

I've never heard of that here, but I remember thinking it was so weird when I lived in Ecuador. I worked in the municipality, and the women had either pencil skirts or slacks, in grey or black, with matching blazers. Men had suits made out of the same material. Each day of the week had a specific combination (women had light and dark pink blouses, and blue button-down shirts, while men always wore white button-down shirts but had matching ties).

It was SO WEIRD. In the three years I lived there I never got over how strange I thought it was. This was for all kinds of professional institutions--government offices, banks, etc.

Grey or red scrubs- I do grey !

We have strict guidelines but can buy from anywhere:

Men must be in a suit with white or cream long sleeve shirt only worn a tie.

Women must be in skirt/dress and nylons, arms must be covered. If it is 32 degrees or below we can wear pants as long as it is part of a suit.

@blackbird: @blackbird: It drives me nuts, because I rarely wear pants in cold weather because it doesn't seem worth buying a suit for a few times a year of wearing it. I would think that dress pants would look more professional than 1/2 the stuff I see the interns running around with, the hemlines are pretty short these days. And I'm not going to lie I wear dresses with leggings/boots in the winter...doesn't exactly scream business professional but I'm within the rules.

I think I get more annoyed with them forcing us to wear pantyhose....there is nothing worse than wearing them in 100 degree heat in the summer, let me wear a skirt with cute wedges/open toed shoes...no go.

@LuLu Mom: I'm surprised they can get away with it. I bet if someone was willing to call them out and possibly sue, they'd have to stop. How frustrating!

DH's company definitely isn't that strict. They have a bunch of different projects all over the country (and in some other countries) and the only rule is they have to be one step up from what the client wears at that location (or the same, I suppose, if they were already in full suit and tie). So if the client wears dress casual (khakis and polo level), they'd have to wear dress pants and shirts, but no tie or coat. If the client wore that, they'd have to add the tie and possibly coat (though they never work in them so when that's the case pretty much every guy just leaves a coat at work that works with most/all of their pants). With women it's a little less clear cut, but same basic idea. He enjoys looking nice, and unique (he likes to wear three piece suits when he's on a project that dresses nicer), so he would NOT like that level of restriction.

@photojane: private company, people have said repeatedly in exit interviews the dress code is an issue, that they are leaving to go to a place that allows casual dress, ect. doesn't change anything and honestly I don't see it changing even with a change in "ownership" soon (son will be taking over.)

I just suck it up and deal with it, and when I was 8-9 months pregnant in the hottest summer in record I didn't wear nylons and pretty much dared HR to talk to me about it...they never did! ha

My dress code is just business casual. My husband's is more firm, they have to wear professional dress, always in a tie and they prefer men to be in a full suit. He's in sales.

Nope, we don't have a uniform, but we have a dress code.

I personally would love a uniform, but no one in the industry really does that outside of retail banks, at least in this part of the country.

When I worked it was business casual. DHs firm is business dress.

I work from home, so my "uniform" is pajamas. The dress code at my company if you go to the office used to be business professional, and they dropped it down to casual.
When I meet with clients I wear a suit, or business professional.

Men have to wear a button up shirt and a tie. If it's above 95* they can wear a polo shirt with no tie. Women just have to look professional. I usually wear a skirt/tights in the winter and skirts in the summer because it's so dang hot.

I am a teacher and my school tends to be really laid back so most teachers wear jeans and a nice top. Love it.

Wow that is strict! And ITA re: the women having to wear skirts. That is very sexist. I work in media/communications and we have a lot of freedom. I mean, it has to be nice business attire but people can show their own style and personality. I'll wear pants (usually cropped/ankle length), sweaters and statement necklaces a lot with heels and booties or dresses with heels and boots. I used to be able to wear jeans at all my other jobs and I actually kind of like having to dress up now
