I am 23, so anyone younger than probably 20 and older than 35 would probably be awkward to hang out with as "friends", of course I associate with people of all ages all the time.

I'm 25. I don't have many friends younger than 22-23, but I have many friends that are 10-15+ years older.

I am 23... and in general there is no one within 5 years of me who is in a similar stage of life (married with a baby), so most of my friends are 27-35. It takes awhile for people to find out my age and they are always really surprised.
It's not that I wouldn't be friends with someone younger than me - but it's highly unlikely just because I wouldn't be able to relate to them at all. I find that relationships with those younger than me err on the "mentor" side of things. Even if they're like 21 I feel so much older than I am because of where I am in life.

Most of my friends are older than me. I'm 22, and while I do have friends around my age, most are 28-35.

I am 34, my oldest friend is in her 50s and my youngest is 17 (although I am her mentor, been mentoring her for 3 years). Most of my friends are between 28-37. I like my friends to be of legal drinking age.

i think it's less of an age thing than it is a stage in life thing. i can't see being friends with someone who's still living in a dorm or that can't go out drinking with us. so i guess 23-33 would probably be our range of average friend ages.
