My allergies have been a MESS lately. I don't know if it's normal seasonal allergies, my eczema or what. My eyes look atrocious though. They are constantly watering or "oozing" in the inside and outside corners, which makes them red in those areas. They're puffy. Nothing seems to be helping either. I've been to the eye doctor before but it was no help... Talk about miserable! =/
Please tell me I'm not alone here! I'm open to trying anything at this point too.

@LindsayInNY: I use an allergy eye drop. Is that an option?
I also take Zyrtec, which is category B, for my allergies.

I get allergies usually early spring/summer. DH usually gets his later.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: Tried both... I take Zyrtec every morning (I have certain food allergies because of the hayfever-type ones and it prevents any reaction). I also use Opcon-A drops at night and sometimes in the morning. my eye doctor recommended storing them in the fridge since the cold drops are soothing. But they don't seem to be helping lately.

fall allergies! they hit me early this year and then with the loopy hot/cold weather ... they come and go... i've been taking allegra? or alavert? (can't recall) it's the number oen "safest" for bfing med... a once a day that KINDA works. usually i just sneeze my way through the day :T

@mrsjyw: I could handle sneezing but the watery/oozy (whatever it is!) eyes is terrible!! They're itchy and puffy now.

i have horrible seasonal allergies and they have been bad this year. my doctor told me that sept/early oct is ragweed season, which can make your eyes very itchy.
my eye doctor actually prescribed me drops that i am to use every day, throughout the year (even in winter when seasonal allergies aren't an issue) so that my body can build up a tolerance. my eyes have been better the last year of using it, but still not perfect.

@lioneyes: I wonder if that's the problem... It's terrible! Do you know the name of the RX eye drops? I go to the doctor in a couple of weeks for an exam and might ask him, if this is still going on.

Yep! Right now on Claritin D after a horrible weekend. I have a patch of dryness around my eye from this allergy season. It makes me look worse than I actually am.

I had allergy shots for YEARS and they worked wonders! Also, sometimes just sticking to one OTC med will make it lose effectiveness - try out Claritin or Allegra. Even if they haven't worked in the past for you, you might find they're the magic solution now!

@AmandaB8: I avoided allergy shots because I knew I couldn't continue them pregnant. I never thought about switching up the OTC med though... I might have to give that a shot!

Seasonal allergies here. I used to take Zyrtec forever - as in back when it was prescription only - but they made me drowsy.
Once out of necessity I took my son's Up & Up (Target's off-brand) Children's Allergy meltaways and they worked with no sleepy side effects. So now that's my go to. I even have my mom and daycare provider on them.

I used to take allergy shots, nasal spray, oral meds, and eye drops. However, my allergies has gotten a lot better when I moved to Southern California. I have tried many OTC eye drops but the best one that worked for me was prescribed by my allergist, try Optivar. It is a little pricey but if you have good insurance coverage, it shouldn't be more than 50 bucks.

Yup! I get seasonal allergies in the fall really bad to ragweed mostly. Other stuff like dust just aggravates it. I usually have to take a Zyrtec d just to function every 12 hours all the way through til it first snows...but now Ive been off of it for a week and feel fine, although a little sneezy.
My allergies got worse for a while because of the pregnancy and now they have gotten better? Lol I don't know. I'm just glad I don't have to take medicine.

@lindsayinny i used to be on patanol, but it's very expensive and they don't do samples, so they switched me to lastacaf (same med, dift brand) and i have been using the samples of that. good luck! maybe it will get cold soon and our suffering will be over for a few months.

Yes, harvest started here within the last couple weeks and my eyes and sinuses have been awful! I love fall but hate what comes with it!

@LindsayInNY: My allergies have been terrible lately. I just (first shot was this week) started allergy shots, too. It looks like I'll most likely be able to keep getting the shots when I have a pregnancy that sticks. They just won't up the dosage I'm on.

Yes my allergies have been bad this past week. And I have been avoiding my allergy medication because my supply seems to drop when I take it

@MrsSpottts: Ooh, I didn't know that you could continue allergy shots while pregnant! Might be something to keep in mind... I have an eye doctor appointment this week. In the past, they haven't been able to figure anything out as to my eyes. Hopefully this new doctor is better?

Most of my allergies manifest in my eyes so I have eye drops that I use as needed. The prescription drops I've used aren't any better than the over the counter drops from both mine and my doctor's experience. I use Zaditor two to three times a day when my allergies are at their worst. http://www.zaditor.com/

@pelikila: Haven't heard of those before! I've tried a couple RX drops and haven't noticed any difference at all. So I'm a bit skeptical of them now. I'll have to check those out!

Update: Went to the eye doctor this morning. He said I'm having an allergic reaction in my eyes and thinks it's to my contact lens solution! Seriously, what are the odds?! I'm going to try a different, preservative-free brand that he recommended. Story of my life...

@LINDSAYINNY annoying, but good you got an answer! if you wear soft lenses, i highly reco the Clear Care solution. I used to use the all-in-one (renu or optifree), and my doctor said that type actually has surfactant in it (the thing that creates bubbles in soap) so it was drying out my eyes and making my allergies worse. the Clear Care takes more steps, but I have noticed a difference. (btw, sorry for all of the novel-length posts, but I get how terrible allergies can be!)

@lioneyes: YES! That's the exact one. I bought it for both DH and I so hopefully it makes a difference!
