We have a couple of family recipes but they aren't secret. However, if you tried to read the recipe you probably couldn't make it because you have to learn how to make it well!

Nope, but my dad cooks everything by taste so I can't replicate pretty much all his recipes since I need actual measurements.

I'd like to be able to have a book of recipes to pass down to my kids/grandkids, but I'm such a bad recipe cook...I'll have to start taking notes when I cook, because my method of cooking is to throw things in a pan and see what happens, lol. Even things I make a lot are a bit different every time.

yup - its for escarole soup (italian wedding soup, some places) - its my great-aunt's recipe and i think i may be the only one who knows it other than her (which is funny, because this is the only recipe that she is stingy with)
oh, and a not-so-secret-secret - we all put cream cheese in our mashed potatoes

@JoJoGirl: My mom is good at that as well! The people at the pizza place down the street knew her by name and order...like to the extent that I once left a message for her there when I couldn't get in touch with her (pre-cell phone era), knowing she'd be calling them for dinner.
