DH wants to buy life insurance and we're not sure which type to get. I was wondering if any bees have life insurance.

We do - DH has some through his job, but we bought a real policy through his brother (he is an agent) once we were married and planning on children so the other person would actually be taken care of should anything happen.

We do. My husbands mom and dad were both insurance brokers/people so he has it because they set it up for him.
I believe we both have it covered under our house insurance? Possibly?
We also are covered through my work.
Can I have 3 types of life insurance??? haha

DH has health, life, and disability, but I only have health, for now. I'll probably insure up again, eventually.

We both do. DH has coverage through work, but we have supplemental coverage for each of us. We increased the amount substantially when we found out I was pregnant. We also have disability insurance.

We both have coverage we pay for. Along with coverage our jobs provide.

we have basic, supplemental and AD&D for DH and I. LO has a whole life insurance policy. Basic is funded by our employers, the others are funded by us.

We have 3 different types. Term life through work that is company paid, convertible term life that is with an outside company and whole life with that same company.

We have pretty hefty plans through DH's job. If you have enough (dollarwise) through a job, what is the purpose of getting supplemental? In case you change jobs? Or am I missing a reason?
I didn't really care that much before but with LO on the way, and me transitioning to a SAHM, I do want to make sure we are really covered.

Whoops, just realized I do have term life insurance. Apparently, I opted into when I signed up for health/dental insurance. DH's is supplemental, and a much larger sum.

We both have plans through work and DH has an additional plan through the military

@Foodnerd81: having outside of your job is good if you change jobs. Lets say you developed a medical condition that now makes you less insurable. If you had outside the job it wouldn't matter. If you only had with the job and you needed to change jobs you might not be able to get a new policy.
Also premiums go up with age so if you change jobs when you are older you risk having to pay a lot more.
I hope that made sense.

@katsupgirl: Yup, that makes perfect sense. Maybe we should get something else, especially for DH...

@Foodnerd81: @katsupgirl covered my thoughts on DH, but if you're transitioning into being a SAHM, you might also want to look into supplemental coverage for yourself. If something were to happen to you, there wouldn't be lost income but there would be the added expense of child coverage.

Yes we both have substantial term life policies (not through an employer).

DH has very good life insurance through work. I should probably have some myself.

We both have it through DH's work. His policy is MUCH larger than mine. I think mine is a little less than 50k, and his is over 300k and more if he dies at work.

We both have basic life insurance through work but it's for a very minimal amount so we decided to purchase supplemental plans on our own.

We have it with our work and also each have a policy with USAA!

@rattles: Oh, we have a policy for both of us, but his is much larger. Both are through his work though. I declined the one offered through my job since his was cheaper and provided more coverage.
He likes to joke about how "set" I'd be if something happened, since it's a big policy. I do not think those jokes are funny.

We have the basic provided by our work - I get 1.5 times my salary and DH gets 1 time his. We have decided that with LO on the way we need to up our coverage so we each have $250K of coverage in case something happens. That basically allows one of us to pay off the house and have a small nest egg god forbid something happened.

Yes, we both do. A thread on here a few months ago is what actually prompted me to get one too and increase it somewhat. DH has always had it through his work and we added another through our house insurance.

My mom is a State Farm agent, so yes, both of us have life insurance. Every year she buys additional policies for the grandkids because it's so cheap when they're young.

Does anyone know what happens to term life after your term is over? Do you just lose the money you've put into it or is whatever you have put into it stays and you're guaranteed that.
