We live in the equivalent of a 2 bedroom apartment right now (we rent out our basement) and so we only really have one space we "live" in.

Not right now. We turned the formal living into our office/den! We are finishing the basement right now though and will probably turn our family/great room into a formal space with (GASP) no tv! As we have an entertainment/theater area and a play area in the basement!

Sort of? We bought a really nice microfiber couch a few years ago because it was supposed to be kid friendly, but it isn't. We have leather couches in our game room & just the other night my husband commented that we should have kept the leather up here!
Still on the hunt for a coffee table. We have a temporary one but it doesn't match & looks odd in our space.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: My microfiber couch looks so gross right now! I need to get it cleaned!

@autumnlove: how do you clean it? I tried a soft, damp towel but that just created more water rings!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: I have the carpet guy deep clean it with a machine 1-2 times a year. He didn't have time to do it last week when he was over for a pumpkin stain in my carpet.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: @autumnlove: I hate microfibre with the fire of a thousand suns!! It gets nasty so so so fast.
We have nice furniture upstairs but thats just because for the first time ever we've been able to afford nice furniture. We still picked our upholstry based on the fact that it was industrial strength in the "wear and tear" dept. We have leather downstairs in the den and it's not as pretty but wears really well, cleans super easy and dog hair doesn't weave into it's fibres.

Our "family room" is in the basement. The sectional in the basement is nicer than the one in the living room, but our other living room furniture is nicer. I guess it evens out in the end.

@autumnlove: really?! My dad has some smaller machines with nozzles at his shop. I wonder if it will work?! I never even thought to ask him!

We don't have a family room so our living room serves as the main gathering room. We do have nicer furniture there than the rest of the house (RH vs Ikea mostly) but we decided it was worth it to us to splurge on something we love and that is super comfortable since we don't have to buy two sets. It is not super formal looking furniture, just relatively good quality.

Yes. A beautiful light colored Ethan Allen set in the living room. No food or dogs allowed on those couches. Family room is an older sofa. Dog is freely allowed on all furniture *except* living room, and she knows it!

We don't have a separate living/family room, but we do have reasonably nice furniture. Our couch and coffee table are from BoConcept.

Our family room is full of toys and a micro fibre sectional. Our living room is at the front of the house (gets better light) and has leather recliner couches. Our basement office/rec room has hand me down micro fibre couches. We spend time in each room during the day

Yes, we have a gray linen sofa with a plaid wool chair in the main living room and brown microfiber in the playroom. The playroom sofas are more comfy (they're power recliners).
I learned the hard way I had to slipcover the nicer sofa. My heart was in my throat when I called the showroom and explained why I needed a new cushion cover, lol.

We only have one living/family room, and it has AWFUL furniture. We have DH's parents' first couch + love seat from when they got married (sooo... 30+ years old?), and my parents' old armchair that my cat shredded to death. Plus some free end tables/coffee table that a family friend didn't want. Classing it up at our house!!

Only one living room and no we don't. Lol our couch is a big sectional from big lots that I HATE. DH bought it before we had got together. Our coffee table/end tables/entertainment center is some cheapies from walmart. Oh well.

Nope! We bought a bunch of second hand stuff when we bought our house 6 years ago and are still rocking the same furniture. We really need to upgrade everything (couches are super sulken in, coffee table has ring marks and chips like crazy, etc), but I'm too cheap to.

We don't have a living room, we just have 1 great room. Overall, it's probably crazy to have a light colored linen sectional, but I do.

No, the nicer furniture is in our family room currently. We spend almost no time in the living room, it has the old couches we bought secondhand in our apartment. Meanwhile, our family room has a nice big leather sectional, a leather recliner and the flat screen TV. I wanted to finish the room we spend the most time in first, so I could enjoy it more!

We have nice stuff in the living and family room. I try and teach the girls to be neat! They have to eat and color at a table etc.
