I was just thinking I should but I realized I have to wait 12 months since I had a blood transfusion after my c-section.

I always feel that I should, but I have chronic anemia so they won't take it!

I would love to but I too am chronically anemic + I am usually barred because of travel rules. I thought about trying the other day, but I'm training for a marathon so its hard to find a good day to do it.

Can you if you are breastfeeding? I won't for a while anyway- too complicated to find the time with two little ones.

@Foodnerd81: I wouldn't, you technically can after 6 weeks but it could affect your supply.
YES! I give blood all the time. I'm not eligible until after February 12th and will be making an appointment soon.

No. I don't meet the weight requirement. Well I may be a couple pounds over it at the moment, but I wouldn't want to risk messing with my supply.

No, I never have. For a long time I was under the weight requirement and then I've spent a lot of the last few years pregnant, nursing, or training for races. Once I'm done having children, I'd like to start giving blood.

I should, but it is not the easiest thing when you're taking care of a young child (who I would most likely need to bring with me to the appointment).

@Mrs.KMM: that's my biggest challenge! my husband works nights and weekends, so I have to pick a time where he can stay with J or have a sitter.

@Mrs. Pickle: haha for a long time I was under the 110lbs and couldn't donate - but I haven't been that weight for a long time now..

@rachiecakes: Yeah - DH travels for work and is out of town every week. And weekends are busy with our activities (tennis matches, seeing friends, seeing the in-laws, etc).

No. I have low iron right now, so I would be denied. I'll start again when I'm done having babies.

I'm not allowed either, I am a celiac and autoimmune disease patients aren't allowed to donate.

I just did a double red blood cell donation a month or so ago, so I don't think I'm eligible yet.

I'm not allowed to because I spent my junior year of college in England.

No. I've donated 7 or 8 times and passed out every time. My MIL, who ran a blood mobile, said I was more trouble than I'm worth. She asked me to please stop donating.

I'm a regular donor, but had to stop when I got pregnant. I'll probably start again when I'm done with my maternity leave.

I used to give every 8 weeks like clockwork, and it has now been two entire years since the last time I gave. I had to take a break when I came back from Thailand and they declared ti to be a malaria zone (after I got back) and then after that I was pregnant and the breastfeeding. Still breastfeeding but at 10 mo pp I feel comfortable giving it a shot, so I have an appointment in a couple weeks. I am really hoping I don't have a cold like I did last month when I tried to make an appt, so I can actually give.

@Corduroy: This is why I don't give blood anymore. I pass out every time, usually before I am done donating. It ends up being a waste of time for everyone.

@Corduroy: @CakeLady: do you drink a ton of water before you donate? I usually have to take an iron supplement and drink about 2-3 gatorades a day or hours before I donate.
@PawPrints: I used to give 3-4 times a year. It's been about 2 years since I donated since my Acupunturist suggested I not do it while TTC.
@rachiecakes: @Mrs. Pickle: I remember when I finally weighed enough to donate. I'm weird and was a bit excited to finally be heavy enough.

@bluestriped bee: i don't think i've done that, but I am also a fainter. I've nearly passed out in doctors offices just talking about medical procedures and my IUD insertion took about 2 hours because I just about fainted...

@CakeLady: oh, yeah, my husband is like that around needles. He's been in the ER or hospital so many times and still gets queasy. Yeah, I don't think that response will ever go away. Thanks for donating. I don't think DH would ever step foot in blood donation place. He doesn't even know his blood type.

I don't think I qualify due to a heart condition. The one time I tried to donate my heart rate was 40 bpm.
