LO has gotten sooooo squirmy! Just when I think she can't get any squirmier, she finds a way. We finally found a way to keep her settled down at night when we're putting her night time diaper and pj's on. Hubby does the work while I hold a book in front of her and read to her. It keeps her nice and calm. But of course that only works when there's two of us, so I just have to deal with it during the day.

Mine's squirmier than she was at 8 months!
I just give her my phone or something to hold.My friend pulled out her play gym again and put her DS in the play gym whenever she changed his diaper.

He's not as squirmy now because he wants me to change his diaper (I think he's ready to be potty trained). But when he squirmed like crazy, we just had a bunch of toys and random items in a box near the changing table and would give him something new each time to keep him busy.

Lo is so squirmy, too! She flips onto her stomach just as I'm trying to wipe poo off her butt! Disaster! I give her a clean bath toy (she likes to chew on it) and it helps some of the time...

my first DD was pretty squirmy but I remember interesting toys helping though. But my second???? Good grief, she does not stay still. Every diaper change is a wrestling match. Most of the time I'm putting on a clean diaper while she's standing. This started at 6 months and she's barely 9 months now. Toys help, but barely. My new tricks are making funny/weird noises or faces and singing new, upbeat songs. I dread diaper changes!!!

I have a squirmy one too! I sing songs and make crazy noises while I change her as fast as I can while shes entertained!

LO squirms too. Most of the time a wipe to play with calms LO down. Sometimes LO holds the wipe packet for me - it makes a nice crinkly sound.

We have a major squirmy toddler. What helped us was moving the changing pad so it's on the floor with a wall on 2 of the 4 sides. So with me on one end, there really is only one escape route. She's mellowed out a lot now.

I let him chomp away on one of his toothbrushes, or sometimes he brushes his hair with his hair brush. We sing a song about it, usually one that I make up as I go along.
I am in the camp that they've got to learn to be still, they can't always have undivided attention and what they want. It gets out of control!

Can your LO stand, assisted now? If she can stand and lean on you, I would change the diaper that way. My LO has always hated lying down so once she could stand like that I started doing diaper changes that way and she is less resistant to it. Otherwise, I grab something to distract her: toy, book, phone, video camera, etc.

Suuuuuuper squirmy!! She hates to be on her back and rolls over unless we give her something to distract her. Even that doesn't always work.
@Andrea: Very impressive! How do you change the diaper when she's standing up?? I've tried and I end up w/ half of the diaper up her butt or something. LOL

@BabyBoecksMom: Haha. It takes some practice but I noticed that this is how they do it at daycare instead of dealing with babies that constantly roll over! Stand her facing you while she leans on one of your shoulders (my left shoulder since I am right handed) and then do the diaper change. It'll get easier with practice. I do make her lie down for poops, though, or else I can't tell if I've cleaned all the crevices properly.

@Andrea: I might just have to try that... although, I'm sure she would still wiggle around even if I stood her up. Oh well, practice makes perfect! Thanks for the tip

i always have to give olive a toy. with charlie, we had these bookshelves on the wall above his changing table and would have him stand and hold onto those. we also had to change him standing up (except for poops) for a while!

the paci sometimes helps and just me being really animated when i'm changing him sometimes also gets his attention.
