I will! So glad you posted the image- we don't have real paint so I was gonna have to go googling for
Something to print out and hang

I made this sign because we are partying with the neighbors that night. Hopefully if people know about it, they'll get it.

Has anyone found ready-made teal pumpkins?
My neighbor spray painted one for us, but it seems like Target or someone should sell fake ones so I can reuse for future years!

I never got around to painting a pumpkin, but I did hang a sign. I only had one kid take a non-food treat, but that's ok - D has lots of glow sticks to play with now! I had forgotten that our backyard neighbor's son has food sensitivities, and she said we were the only other house in the neighborhood that offered a non-food option. I completely attribute that to HB raising my awareness!!

@HazelEyes: I bought a fake (orange) pumpkin from Target that I had planned to paint. I didn't get around to painting it before trick-or-treat last night, so it'll be a good art project for D and I on Saturday!

@HazelEyes: I heard reports that some Wal Marts had ready painted (or maybe fake) teal pumpkins.
Our teal pumpkin and non-food treats are ready to go.

So question - I have only heard of this on HB - do people know what this means in IRL? Have any of you done this in the past and had anyone know what it meant?

We're painting one today.
@runnerd: I'd only ever seen it on here before, but this year it was all over my FB feed. We'll see!

We haven't carved pumpkins yet! But I have the sign ready and non candy treats as well!

My mom painted some with DD so we'll have them out tomorrow. I have glow sticks, tattoos and smarties which are allergy friendly!

Didn't paint a teal pumpkin, but we're hanging up a sign and I picked up some non food treats this morning!

@runnerd: it was on our local news this morning! I think it's slowly making its way around the country. I think itlstarted in Tennessee?
We are going to paint our pumpkin tomorrow and I have a bunch of cute little toys/stickers/etc but we usually don't get very many trick or treaters.

@KT326: haha that's funny? I'm in TN and HB is still only place I've seen it.

@runnerd: this is only the second year of the national campaign. I'm starting to see it more on FB feeds and on my yahoo page. I don't think it is well known yet, but it's better known this year than it was last year.
I have a teal pumpkin and treats ready to go.

I painted one and bought non-candy treats. We're going to be at a neighbor's house for dinner then will be trick-or-treating after. I hope we get home early enough to be able to hand something out!

We are in a brand new neighborhood that's still
being built, so not this year! But next year I will participate!

We do! Except the paint I got looked different in the bottle than it does on our pumpkin... so we have a blue pumpkin instead of teal.

We went to a pumpkin patch a couple weeks ago and they were selling pre painted teal pumpkins!

We're putting this on our door: http://www.foodallergy.org/document.doc?id=355. Not doing an actual teal pumpkin.

@runnerd: I had several people ask about our sign last night, so people didn't know but I was happy to give them information! The FARE website has a sign that has tearaway tabs at the bottom with their website on it. I kind of wish I had printed one of those so people could take the information home with them.

@Adira: Target! $3 for 20 bubbles I think.
@HabesBabe: Mine turned out blue too but I added white to make it more teal.

@runnerd: a few of my FB friends (former coworkers) have kids with severe allergies, so I heard about this through them before I heard about it on HB.
@HazelEyes: I was hoping something was pre-made, too. After the twins were born, the only store I have been frequenting is Target. If I had time, I would totally paint my own.

Someone should totally start an etsy shop to sell real pumpkins.

@runnerd: My cousin has a son with severe (literally allergic to food) allergies, so I know about it through her. I haven't seen any other mention of it outside of HB though.
To answer the post, I didn't think we'd be home, so I didn't buy anything, candy or otherwise. If I can, I'll pick something up tomorrow, but if not we'll just be the sad, dark house.

Just got done painting mine! I bought a white craft pumpkin from Michaels and painted it teal.m so I can reuse it every year. We just found out DD had a peanut and tree nut allergies so definitely wanted to participate this year. Didn't know about it last year.

@yin: So cute!
Hopefully we can do this next year. This year we are in survival mode with our newborn. We have yet to carve pumpkins...I was so excited for Halloween last year because we missed it while on our honeymoon, but then our baby came two weeks late so it went out the window this year too.

I saw something really neat today, a kiddo with a food allergy had a plastic teal pumpkin for her candy container. I've seen the plastic orange candy containers for trick or treating for years but I thought the teal one was really neat! I hope people knew that meant she needed non-food treats!

@runnerd: last year was the first year so I'd imagine it'll take a few years before it's more mainstream. I got daycare to post a sign up and they actually taped it right on the front door! DH taped one up at work as well!
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@Applesandbananas: I saw a whole bunch of pumpkin pails at target and was hoping there was a teal one!
Really good idea to buy a fake pumpkin and spray paint it real for yearly usage!

@mrskc: im going to have to check out Michaels clearance! What kind of paint and color did you get?

Does having a teal pumpkin mean you ONLY have non-food treats, or that you have non-food treats available? If you have other treats, do the kids with allergies just mention it and you give them the non-food treat?
I've never done this before, but have had kids request a candy bar without nuts. We also have non-chocolate and non-candy options (skittles and goldfish).
