@reyorra: it's about having non candy options. I'm planning to offer both!

@reyorra: I just figured I'd have glow bracelets in the bowl and the kids can pick what they want.

I'm so excited for this - I never got to trick or treat as a kid because of my severe allergies, I'm glad the next generation has more options!
One note, some kids are touch sensitive as well and shouldn't even be handling the wrappers of food they are allergic to so it may be best to put non-food treats in a separate bowl or basket.

@yin: How will you be offering the treats? Will you have them pick from different bowls, or ask them if they have allergies? I'm trying to figure out the best way to offer the kids treats without making it too complicated!

@reyorra: @Freckles: I'll have two bowls out and ask if they would like candy or a non-candy treat bag. I won't mention anything about food allergies unless they ask. The candy treats I'm offering are free of the top 8 food allergies and made in a nut free facility so it's still a pretty safe option. I'm keeping my kiddos in mind since both have food allergies.

@Rocker2014: @Freckles: @yin: yeah, I didn't even think of that but another bee mentioned it in another thread. So, I've got the non candy treats in separate bowl than my candy.

So I didn't do the teal pumpkin this year (though we had treats that didn't have the top 8 allergens), but I went shopping on Sunday to buy some clearance Halloween items to use for next year!

We had it out advertised in a teal bowl as well - had about 100 kids and no one took from the teal treats! I have a stash for next year already

I made about 50 treat bags, and they were all gone by the end of the night. When given the option between candy and the treat bag, half of the kids wanted the treat bags. It was so fun seeing a group of kids open their bags to find glow bracelets and then eagerly wearing them. One girl chose the candy and then saw everyone else grab the bag. So she put back her candy and went for the bag. Tough decisions for little kids.

No one took from the non candy pile! Oh well, I'll have it for next year.
