I am totally guilty of this. In fact, when I go to the book store I skim the shelves by looking at the color of the binding. I look for bright colors like pink or turquoise. Something that lets me know that it is a girly chic book. Please tell me I'm not the only one...

I try not too. I always read the summary and look at the front cover. If it sounds or looks interesting, I'll read a few pages to see if I like the writing. Either way, I think everyone judges the cover first in some way. That's usually what gets your attention.

I totally used to when I shopped in book stores. Now that I do most of my reading on the kindle I actually read the descriptions since all you get is a small black and white picture of the cover.

I totally judge books by their cover. If the author can't put something together that looks nice and that they take their work seriously, why should I spend time reading their work.
I'm kind of a snob about visual things though. Presentation is very important to me. -

I read mostly fantasy and non-fiction. There are lots of types of fantasy covers I avoid, as they are known for containing really crappy stories. History books, I can often judge by the cover (will it be dry dates and places, or does the author picture how things would have been for the people involved?)

I rarely see the covers of books anymore, since I do most of my reading on my Kindle. I'm actually guilty these days of not even remembering the titles of the books that I read b/c you don't see the cover every time you pick up your book to read when you're reading on a Kindle!

I totally judge a book by its cover, and encourage the kids to, as well. The publishers design covers to reflect the book's contents - especially genre, so it's not a bad strategy. It might not work as well with older books, but for new books, it's great.

Yes. But I rarely pick out my own books anyway. I'm not good at it, so I'd rather have someone who's read it (and I know we have similar taste in books) recommend it to me.

Yes! I have actually found several books I love by this method. Some of my favorite books I have read were only because I loved the cover first.
