My former coworker got laid off from his last job in 2010 and has been a SAHD ever since. They had one kid at the time but now have three....4, 18 months and a newborn!

My Dad was one! He took early retirement from his company and stayed how with us from when we were 10 to 15. It was incredibly special and I loved it.
It has definitely shaped how I view things. My husband and I are an equal income household (I might actually make a little more? Or I have a lot more upward potential in my salary) and whenever it comes up about me being a SAHM, I remind him that SAHD is just as much a consideration.

@autumnlove: I know 1! He just wrote a funny piece in the New Yorker about being a SAHD. Except he's really a writer, so it's probably more accurate to say WAHD?

My DH Because of him, I am more aware of them. I have a couple of coworkers who have DH that stay home, a couple others work minimally from home but are at home with the kids full time.

My uncle was, and there's one in DD's library class. That's it IRL though.

I know one personally and he's a great dad. Makes me looks lazy for not wanting to go out every day with my youngest. Haha! He's always out and about with his daughter.

There's one who brings his 3 little girls to the library storytime that we go to! I've talked to him a few times! He's the only one I know/have heard of IRL.

Found it. This is hilarious.

@shellio: thanks for the link...too funny!
“Can Poppa get num num, too?” & "Talbots models, all of you!” made me laugh so hard I spit my tea out.
Only SAHD I know is my husband. He stays at home with our twins & I have to admit, does a kickass job.

I don't. There is a much larger demographic of SAHM, to the point where I, as a WOHM, am a minority. We told my family that if I ever had the opportunity to support the family we would entertain the idea of DH as a SAHD, and they didn't seem oo thrilled...

Yes! My BFFs DH is a SAHD for now. He also runs his own business and goes to school p/t.

Yes! My old boss' husband stays home. It seems to work very well for them! She's currently pregnant with their second.
ETA: my H said he'd enjoy being a SAHD because he "has a lot of hobbies." I was like, "well you'd have to take care of the kids so...." hahaha.

I know 1-2 that are SAHDs. My DH suggested he could SAH. Done deal to me!

DH has J in the daytime but does work most evenings/nights/weekends.
We sometimes need daycare for the overlap of my job/his job though.

My dad was a SAHD. He gardened alot too.
My bff's brother is a SAHD of three LOs. He also does stand up comedy on the side.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: taking care of 3 lo's, I bet he's never at a loss for comedy material

My high school friend's dad and my boss's boss's boss (the director of my program) her husband is a sahd too because her career took off.

@LMOG47: yeah he's pretty funny. He posts alot on FB and each child has their own nick name. I like that he still protects their identity while making everyone laugh.

@LMOG47: The Talbot's model thing is still cracking me up. Yes, my DH does a kickass job too!
@Mrs. Pen: Our families were both a little weirded out by it but at this point, older DS is almost 2.5 and they've pretty much stopped asking us when DH will go back to work
@MrsSCB: Yeah... my FIL offered to bring DH a bunch of his old magazines, when DH turned him down, FIL was a little mystified and either said or implied something like "Well, what on earth will you possibly do all day then?" Ha ha ha

Both my dad and my husband are/were SAHD's on certain days of the week.

@shellio: lol yeah I think my H was thinking more along the lines of "househusband" than SAHD. Not a lot of time for hobbies with that one!

My DH is a SAHD and a PT WAHD.
@Mrs. Pen: my in laws were not super approving of the situation.

Two of my uncles are (my mom is one of six and two of her sisters work while their husbands stay home with the kids). I'm the oldest cousin by 10 years.

Technically, my DH is right now, due to being laid off. I hate it...he hates it. Everyone hates it.
In my area, 95% of mom's are SAHM. I really want to SAH too, but it's just not going to happen. It's hard.

My stepfather was. I guess a SAHSD? He'd love to be one for my elementary aged sister as well, and homeschool her, but Mum says no (they are divorced). I tend to agree - he didn't finish high school and has some very interesting ideas on how the world works
Being a SAHSD really suited him. He ran a small at-home business restoring old tvs, and selling rare books, but being home and managing house + family were his #1 priority. Once we were older he set up his own bookshop, just in time for my sister to be born! She has always gone into work with him when she is with him though.

My cousin. They have moved a couple times for his wife's job, and he had trouble finding a new job. Once their LO was born, they decided he would SAH. I think he enjoys being with the baby but feels find of stagnated...I'm sure he will try to find work again once their LO is a bit older.

My DH and his brother are both SAHDs and one of my coworkers also has a husband who SAH. It's nice for me to have another co-worker in the same situation

My brother is, but not really by choice. He was hurt at work 10 years ago and is unable to work.

@shellio: That link is freakin' hilarious. I had to send that to my DH because he is still planning on being a SAHD.
