Yup. I have three sets of friends who DO NOT WANT children. They are fine with other people's kids but prefer their carefree childless lives.

I haven't met anyone super against children yet. It's one thing to be disinterested in children and not want to raise them, that's totally fine with me.

But to say that children are a disservice to the world? Holy cow. That attitude is one step away from eugenics.

DH didn't want to have kids before he met me. Now he's got baby fever

Yes. She's really into her career and travels often because of it. Her lifestyle isn't indicative of a long-term relationship, much more a child. BUT I'm not so sure if it's really out of the picture (as much as she'd argue it is) because I know she looks at her superiors and thinks about what kind of life they live without having a place to call their own for longer than a few years and not having enough time for their families (or not having a family/broken families).

Yep, one of my friends at work and also my boss.

My friend has been married for four years and they agreed on "none with the option of one" this past year, they decided on the none.

My boss has been married for almost 10 years and has no plans of having children.

My brother doesn't want to have children.

My best friend has never been around many little kids, so she really just doesn't get them. Then she married her DH who has 6 nieces/nephews (so far!) They're still undecided, but leaning towards no I think. Every once in a while she worries about who to leave their "legacy" to though.

Also, my brother is sure he doesn't want kids. He still hasn't found stability in his life (hes 32!) Hes great with kids though, so I wouldn't be surprised if it changed once he finds the right woman.

@Rubies: If your friend truly thinks having children is doing a disservice, then perhaps it is best that she doesn't procreate.

I don't think it's so much that some of my friends are ant-children, but just know that kiddos aren't right for them. I don't see it as selfish, but rather so honest about their capabilities and strengths. Honestly, there are plenty of babies in this world and it's not really great for our planet to stress it the way we do. That I have friends who have decided to not take the traditional route gives me great respect for their decisions. I can't imagine life without my babies, but I don't think everyone has to feel this way.

@Mrs. Jacks: I agree with you. There's a lot of societal pressure to have children. While 99.9% of people can't imagine their lives without their LOs once they have them, I think it's brave to not have children if you don't want to. Of course, it is hard for me to understand, but I have the baby rabies bad

@MrBee: Agree. DH and I seriously considered not having children, for many, many reasons.

@MsLipGloss: I hope you don't think I was saying that people shouldn't have babies, but rather that I respect others' reasons for not wanting them

I have a couple sets of friends who do not want children. They love other's kiddos, but don't want any of their own. My boss doesn't want any either. She divorced her first husband bc he had a change in heart of not wanting kids to wanting them.

I have a friend that I don't think will ever have kids. She has a genetic condition that she isn't willing to risk passing on to a child, so she decided to never have kids. If the circumstances were different, I don't know if she would feel differently or not.

Also, there are quite a few women in my profession who choose to not have kids.

I know 2 docs who r married to each other in their 60s. They don't have kids and don't regret it... My cuz married an older guy who already has a kid and doesn't want more. They agreed before getting married.

I know a lot of couples who will never have children, and a couple singletons who have said they're not interested. They're all incredibly sweet to DD and DS, though, just not interested in having any of their own.
