A friend of mine is coming over tomorrow and no doubt she will want to see my entire house. I plan on having everything I need in the living room ready to go. The master bedroom is not just my space and I feel weird letting a girlfriend enter my intimate shared space with my husband.
Do you let your friends visit with you in your master bedroom?

My room is too messy to let people see it. It's like the last room we ever get to and it needs to be painted. I try to skip it!

We built a new house so when we had people over for the first time we did a little tour around and they saw it then, but typically no one really goes in it.

I think it's odd to not give someone a full tour... But I agree it's awkward. I normally keep our door closed, and have personally always felt odd entering other couples bedrooms!

For a quick tour, sure. When my MIL visited during that fateful visit, she kept on wanting to get into our bedroom the whole time. I shut the door often and she still went in a number of times without permission. I don't know what her damage was, but she certainly didn't respect our private space.

If I know someone is going to want a tour, I try to clean up a bit. But generally when people come over, we just stay downstairs in the living room.

I normally do the stand in the doorway but open the door so they can get a glance in...

I don't find it strange to have friends come in my bedroom. Usually at parties in my group, the bedroom is where guests can put their coats and purses (on the bed). I definitely wouldn't care if family came into my bedroom. It's just not part of our family's culture to feel strange about it, I guess.

Yup, I don't have a problem with people going into the master bedroom. It's not like we leave toys and underwear all over. I'm actually quite happy to show it off.

no, i don't feel comfortable letting other people in our bedroom. the only exception was when lo was born.
i also don't feel comfortable going into other people's master bedroom's. it just seems so personal.

I think I might be weird. I mean, if someone wants to see it I don't really care. I don't know why they'd want to look. I mean, I am seriously no decorator and it is just a room with a bed in it, but whatever floats their boat.

I let people in and I always keep it really clean, scented candle lit...all that. I spend a lot of time in there.
My husband HATES anyone in there and he always is so irritated when he finds out me and my friends were in there haha...Oh well. Girls will be girls...

I always have friends over in our room. Especially if DH is watching something on TV in our living room. When we have parties people always end up hanging out in our room. I clearly don't look at our bedroom as an off limits place, but I can understand why other people feel that way.
ETA: this was all pre baby. Our room right now is a HOT mess. I would never let anyone in there when its a mess.

It's always a mess but if you know me well enough to be in there, you can't judge me! I usually say something super awkward like 'sooooo...this is where the magic happens' then they vomit and don't come back.

I would clean it up if I was having company that I knew had never been over and would want a tour or our place, but typically nobody goes in there. My MIL went in there once to use our ensuite without asking because our main bathroom was in use and I thought that was a little odd, especially since it tends to be last priority to get clean when guests come over, and typically has my crap everywhere, not to mention the shower rod is where we hang our laundry to dry (teeny apartment)
But, apparently they're taking over our bedroom next time they come to stay for the weekend, so I guess I'll have to get over it.

I don't care if anyone goes into our bedroom, but my closet is off-limits! It's just tooooooooo messy; I don't even like my husband going in it!

I don't mind if people go in and check it out, but it does feel kinda odd. I always clean it up if we're having new company just in case someone wants a tour. Also, our bathroom has two doors, one of which is connected to our bedroom and I am paranoid about people opening it and seeing my messy bedroom! 
I don't always feel comfortable going in other people's either.

Haha... once a friend came over (she was unmarried at the time, I was married) and dove into our bed and pulled the covers over herself. I still shudder thinking about that..!!

Yep, it doesn't bother me at all. I've even shared my bed with my best friend when she stayed with me when DH was out of town for work. I knew this was happening so the sheets were changed of course!
We left people use our master bath all the time when we have company (we only have 2 bathrooms.)

I find it a bit awkward. It's rarely clean, I don't usually make the bed, and we don't have a ton of clothes storage, so there are small piles on the floor while I try to figure out what we can fit in there. Also, my mother refused to use our hall bathroom until she realized how awkward and small our powder room in the master is (it's 4'x5'). Now she grumbles about it, but uses the bigger hall bath.

I'm a private person, so I don't love other people being in my space, but I do show the master bedroom to close friends and family the first time they are at our new house. After the first (brief) time in there, I don't see a reason to see it again unless there is specifically something in there that I want them to see, such as new paint or something.
If family/friends come over my husband doesn't care if they see the house a mess or not, but I always clean before people come over. If I keep people out of the master bedroom/bath, that's just one less area for me to clean!

When we first moved and were showing the house around, we showed people our master bedroom. But now I keep the door closed and people aren't allowed in. It's a mess and I don't want people in there ever.

Everyone who comes over and gets a tour can see it, but no one is allowed to hang out in there and I can't stand when I go in there for something and someone follows me. It's usually a mess.
My FIL is so bad for that, i'll need to step in there to put something up or let the dog out and he comes right on in and I can't stand it.

@mrs. wagon: OMG!! I would have serious issues with that friend after that. I respect people's space especially the bedroom. I'm appalled by people who don't respect other's private spaces like the master bedroom.

I don't mind showing to people, but I would encourage people to get out when they're trying to hang out in there. And by people, I mean my MIL. It's just weird when she goes in and lays on our bed. It has a memory foam top, so I know its cause it's so comfy, but it's really awkward.

If I'm showing my house to someone for the first time I do, otherwise I feel like it's kind of an off-limit space... I don't know why I feel like that, but it just seems private.
My SIL always goes in there when she's upstairs though. It's kinda odd... especially since there's all sorts of stuff lying out I would rather my SIL not see... haha

@mrs. wagon: Ah, that's weird... I have a thing with beds though. I don't like sleeping in other people's beds unless it's specifically a guest bed. My cousin always tried to get me to sleep in her step-son's bed when he wasn't there and I was visiting... I just couldn't

I don't mind giving a quick tour through our bedroom and bathroom . . . the bedroom is so big that you can't see it all from the door (so you have to walk in it to see all of it), and, since they are already *in* our bedroom, they might as well see the bathroom, too, which is pretty cool.

I would give a tour of the room, but would never visit with anyone in there. I don't even sit on my bed with street clothes on. I don't know why anyone would want to sit in there with me.

I don't really have a problem with people going in the room, assuming it's clean. There's nothing super personal about it, it's just a room with some dressers and a bed. And it's not like we haven't um *had fun* in most of the rooms in the house anyways, haha.
And actually, in a couple weeks I have a whole bunch of friends coming to stay at our house for my baby shower. Due to space constraints 3 girls will be staying in the upstairs loft that's only accessible through our bedroom (it's like a giant finished basement but at the top of our townhouse). There's stairs that separate it, but no door. So that's a little weird, since we'll be sleeping in there, but oh well.

We do, but I can tell people always want to get out of there as soon as possible and move on to the next room. We keep it neat and it's decorated so I don't know why, I think people just get skeeved out that it's our private area.

Yes for tours and parties when we're showing the house. And I leave the door open for parties in case someone needs the restroom (we only have 2). But it's not like people ever want to hang out in there. I'd feel weird if someone jumped in my bed though!

Not unless it's clean...i don't mind showing them the room itself but generally, i keep it shut.
