Do you let your kids play in sandboxes?

I was never allowed to play in sandboxes, and never knew why. I asked my mom, and she said I got impetigo from playing in a sandbox. It's apparently worse than ringworm. The doctors said kids get it from cats and animals peeing in the sandboxes. I was 15 months old, very contagious, and had to stay home for 10 days on antibiotics.

It's never occurred to me to not let a kid play in sandboxes. I LOVED them growing up, and hope we can get one for LO when she's old enough! Heck, I want to play in it!

I guess I'll have to since my mom just bought DS a sandbox for his birthday.

There are sandboxes at every playground near us, lo loves them! I just try to keep her from eating it all, haha. Our ped joked that it's good for her to eat some dirt/sand though to build up immunities!

Our kids love sandboxes. Ours is covered and I saw a tip to mix 1 cup of cinnamon into the sand to keep bugs and critters out! I just got cinnamon at costco to mix in ours.

If they are covered, yes. Otherwise they are just giant litter boxes.

Never thought twice about this! We just got a sandbox and it has a cover, so I'm not concerned with animals getting in it, but I guess I don't understand how it's different from playing in beach sand?

A few nice tips...baby powder gets sand off really easily, so we always use that anytime LO plays in the sand, and a half cup of cinnamon mixed in with the sand keeps bugs out.
