My mom always let me lick the bowl after making cookies. DH's mom would not, because there are raw eggs in it. He doesn't want our LO to eat it either for fear that she'll get sick. I understand where he's coming from and I'll respect that, but I will miss the yummy tradition of licking the bowl!

DD and I made a cake together Saturday, and then we licked the beaters clean! Neither DH or I have an issue with it.

I always save the beaters for DH, even if he isn't home when I make the cake or cookies. Then I pat myself on the back for being a good wife. So, yes, we both eat the dough and I'll let LOs but not until they are a little older (4? 5?).

Meh, i totally do it and always did. My mom let us have the beaters from the mixer for cakes, too.

No, I didn't do it growing up and when I tried it as an adult I didn't get the appeal!

I bake a lot but I'm torn on this. My mom would let us every now and then, but I'm paranoid to let DD do it because of the eggs.

I do and will let my LO! The risk of salmonella works out so that if you eat an egg every day of your life you will encounter salmonella every 40ish years. I will take my chances that my cookie/cake/brownie batter is OK.

Nope, never did! Even as an adult, I still haven't! I probably won't for future LOs either, and it's not because of the raw eggs thing. Just won't. If we end up doing so in the future, then sure.

I am obsessed with batter/raw cookie dough. I actually like it better than the finished product! I will definitely let LO lick batter/eat dough...and isn't the risk of salmonella from eggs actually from the shells, not the actual raw eggs (correct me if I'm wrong!)? DH on the other hand does not like batter--which I think is so strange!

I also eat it! I plan to let our kids when we have them, but DH freaks out when I do it! He thinks its so bad. So he probably won't want me to!

I did as a kid and never got sick. I don't now but that's because I'm a terrible baker so I never bake anything LOL If I were to become good at it and had a LO I would probably let him/her lick the spoon.

YES! The worst part of baking while pregnant is that I can't/won't eat the batter. I suspect I'll let the eventual LO do it too, because when no longer pregnant, I won't be able to resist myself!

Yes and yes! My mom would let me lick the beaters for as long as I can remember. No one I have ever known has had salmonella so it's not something I really worry about. Except for raw chicken, I am a little crazy about over cooking chicken.

@artbee: Same!! DH would do the same thing. I always eat raw dough and DH is like eewwww you're gonna get sick. I'll totally let DS do it, and DH isn't the SAHD so he doesn't have to know

Oh yes! I have actually made the dough with all intentions of cooking it, but then end up just eating the whole bowl! I let DS join me too, but he doesn't get to eat as much as me

@Coco Bee: I feel that with my luck, the one in a million shot of getting sick will happen to lo if I let her do it behind dhs back. Maybe ill always keep some with the egg out for her.

I never because the thought of eating raw egg makes me gag, even though I know one can't taste it in the batter. I probably won't let LO just because I don't. But then again, I don't bake. LOL.

I never did it as a kid, but then again, my Mom never baked! I like chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream though
I don't know how I feel about letting her do it, if it was me baking, no. But if it's DH, BIL, or anyone else, they can do what they want and I'm fine with it.

Yes! I love raw cookie dough. I won't eat it while pregnant though. I bought some pre-made cookie dough at the store and it is hard to not just break off a piece and eat it raw.

Yes and yes. Salmonella is most commonly found in cracked eggs. It's rare to find it in a not cracked "good" egg. Really rare. I don't use cracked/old eggs in my cooking so I don't worry about it.

omg i love cookie dough! i would eat just a tiny bit when i was pregnant, i couldnt resist! i will let LO have a small amount of cookie dough too.

I used to, until I was pregnant with LO. Then I kept thinking salmonella and stopped. But LO has an egg allergy, so most of what I bake now is without eggs. Hence, the bowl licking has returned (and LO gets some too if he is "helping").

Yes I eat any and all batter. But we are mostly top 8 allergy free so no more eggs. So we are safe to eat no matter what. Yay!
