I'm really not a great host...I get too stressed out when I have company. I'd much rather go to a party than host one. Or go to someone's house than have them at mine!

I love having people over, but I learned the hard way last weekend that I have to start limiting it to only 2-3 guests at a time. We had 6 of my friends over and they were LOUD and stayed until 12:30am. I was practically sleeping on the couch by the time they left. And we get nervous about being too noisy since the co-op rules pretty much state you can't be loud after 10/11pm. Everyone seemed to be shouting over each other to have 3 different conversations at once and it was a little stressful.

Hubby and I love hosting get togethers. We don't mind having people over as long as we know in advance so we can clean/tidy up the house.

I do, but I find it difficult to find the time, our weekends are so jammed with stuff to do now.

@Modern Daisy: haha the same thing happened to me this past weekend! we ended up impromptu having a bunch of people over (impromptu meaning they'd already been drinking excessively for several hours, ugh) and i just wanted to go to sleep. and guess what, I did! rude or not, i didn't care (of course i didn't actually sleep because they were so loud, but i went to my own room at least!)
I like having people over for dinner, but our friends are definitely harder partiers than we are, so it tends to end up being later nights, which i don't like. Love having family over! mostly because i'm still learning how to cook and like to surprise my family with being able to make things i never knew how to make

I love having people over! We're going to have a full house this weekend. I can't wait.

Love it! I am ready to have people over but we need to wait till R is more on a schedule.

@CottonCandy: Same here. I don't like having parties at my house. I don't mind a friend coming over, but I don't care to entertain

Not in this tiny apartment...once we get a house somewhere, I'd be way happier to have people at my place.

No. I don't like people using my bathroom or having to clean up behind them. People always put dirty glasses and c plates in the sink even when they ask what to do with them. I prefer things on my counter since things always get more wet, soggy and gross in the sink. I hate that when people come over they want to tour the house; DH obliges even our bedroom and bathroom.

We love to entertain. We usually keep the groups smallish unless it is for family events.

@mrstiz: exactly! one friend over is okay...more than that gets me stessing lol

@Pirouette: Ugh, that's the worst! At least my friends started out sober. But they got louder and louder the drunker they got and I tried to herd them out to a bar as per the original plan but they werent' having it. They were too comfortable in our apartment and the booze was free, so they were staying!

with DS I'd rather have him in our house with our babyproofing and toys than chase him around someone else's house telling him not to touch things. and he never ever sleeps when we're out, so there's no way he would nap at a friend's house.

Small get togethers are ok. Like 2-4 people, but I still find it exhausting even hosting small gatherings. Especially if we do a dinner or something. It's always more work than I think it will be. So I usually like to go to parties rather than hosting people at my house mostly b/c I'm lazy and don't want to clean up.

We entertain frequently and really enjoy it. Our house is really well suited for big parties and football season pretty much guarantees a full house. We also have an annual Christmas party with 50+ people and host most family birthdays. Summer means lots of fish fries and low country boils. We know how to party.

We love having people over but I don't love having people stay overnight.

We hate our rental, so right now we don't ask people over to our house. I'm do excited to move to our new home next month so we can have people over again!

I don't mind if close friends come over but I don't like having parties or entertaining people
apricot / 309 posts
Yup - otherwise we'd never get to see anybody during the week! LO goes to bed between 7 and 7:30. But usually only a couple of other people - no big gatherings.

Yes, but only if I'm able to schedule our cleaning lady to come a few days prior, haha. It stresses me out to have to clean the house and then think about food & beverages!!
Last night I hosted my book club (cleaning lady came on Saturday, so it was still clean!), and it was a lovely night!

I love it! I love being a hostess
My MIL claims all the holidays, so I'm always bummed that I never get to have the big family get-togethers
apricot / 340 posts
no. since i moved to texas (from ny/nj (me) and philly (hubs)) all o f our "guests" tend to be out of towners visiting us for at least the weekend. we realized that it's stressful and that the two of us are not great hosts.
we also tried hosting a few bbqs and potlucks but i find it exhausting.
pomegranate / 3160 posts
Nope. I really don't enjoy it at all. I'm a huge introvert so I don't like talking to/being around people for an extended period of time...I also am super anal about my thing/my place. Hahahah, I'm just a peach!

It doesn't seem to matter how much I clean our house, I never feel like it's clean enough. DH and I are such homebodies we prefer to nestle into our cave by ourselves!
nectarine / 2690 posts
Usually, but I do get burnt out on it. Right now there's a lot going on with our circle of friends (couples splitting up and such - sad) so we've been having people over to our house most of the time and its getting tiring. My moms birthday was last weekend and we are celebrating on Friday, and although I asked her if she wanted to do a BBQ at our house, I was kind of relieved when she decided she wants to go out instead.

We love to entertain! Our space is tiny though, so we really only have a few people over at a time for dinner or drinks.
kiwi / 549 posts
Yes, but usually only a 2-6 adults + their kids at a time. More in the summer bc our backyard is huge but our house is tiny. We've started entertaining more because with X's early bedtime, we wouldn't see anyone if we didn't host.
It's stressful, but at least it helps us maintain a social life. And I've learned to let go about some things-- I clean the house, but I don't stress about the fact that we haven't painted the bathroom ceiling yet or that the linoleum in the kitchen is horrible. Our house is a work in progress and I think people are understanding of that. Before we had kids I was really not into having people over because I wanted our house to look "just so" first. I got over it.

@ms.janedoe: same!!
I haaaaaaaaaaate having people over. I dislike the thought of entertaining... especially if I have to change out of my pajamas.

I love having people over because it means our house gets a good cleaning!

love it. big parties or small. we normally have people over at least 2 weekends a month - and are normally out of town the other weekends i would say we are the default hosts of our friend group... wonder what will happen when LO arrives

I'm not good at entertaining but like it when people come by for a short visit. It makes me go into cleaning mode

We love to entertain, but are only able to 2x a year max now. We used to always have ppl over to grill and eat before the kids!
