@regberadaisy: That's my favorite too!!
I like jook, but don't love it... I can only eat a small bowl and then get tired of it, haha. I always enjoy it more when I'm sick!

GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@chopsuey119: ooh adding brown rice for nutrition. brilliant! I will have to do that whne I start making it for M.
How old before you tried it for the first time? My mom already made jook for my nephew who's about 10 days older than M. So a little older than 6 months. We just started solids so I might wait a bit yet. Maybe 7 months when I plan to intro meats

I love it with white pepper, a little soy sauce and chicken. Top it with a little cilantro and it's the perfect sick day meal!

@autumnlove: HAHA I do. It's healthy! And LO loves them!
@regberadaisy: Yep! I just have to cook them longer. I think I gave her jook around 6-7 months. I cooked them blended it in my blender.

Love, love, jook!
I usually add the bones from the Costco rotisserie chicken for flavor or any other type of bones.
My favorite is thousand year old egg with pork jook.. add a little green onion and cilantro--delish! We just bought a Zojirushi rice cooker and it has a porridge setting that I plan on trying this weekend. Making jook in a Crockpot overnight is not that great.

Love it! Love any kind, especially oyster, ginko nut (i think that's what it is, sound like 'white nut' in cantonese),

Love it! My favourite is the pork with thousand year old too.
But I also love pork rib or seafood.
Does anyone call it congee? That's what it's called here where I live.

@keiki_mama: That is what I did with my leftover Costco chicken this morning!

@regberadaisy: add me to the list of fans of the thousand year old egg!! I like to add ground pork in it also topped with a little bit of sesame oil and scallions. YUM!! I miss having fresh "yao chow gway" too.
I also like it plain with soy sauce and/or dry shredded pork.
@MRSBELLS: it looks gross, but it tastes so good! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Century_egg

@autumnlove: Yay! Another Costco win!
@NerdBee: Yep, I see it as congee on menus in Northern California.

Yup, love jook! I've been making jook everyday for L (variation of chicken/turkey w/veggies) and I've been eating her leftovers.

Yes! Esp when I'm not feeling well...it's the only thing I eat!
My fav is tang jai jook (Hong Kong style congee which has peanuts, squid, pork and scallions) along with a youw till (chinese donut). I think I might need to get some tonight!

I like mine with sesame oil and soy sauce. But I grew up eating it with taiwanese pickles and pork foo (is there a better name for this stuff?).

@keiki_mama: I have a zojirushi rice maker with all the various settings but I've only made plain white rice. You will have to tell me how it goes when you try the porridge setting and give me your step by step tips
