I love it!!!! I need lime, mint leaves, and jalapeƱo!

I have heard of it, but honestly don't know what it is, but I would probably like it!
grapefruit / 4681 posts
Yes but I haven't had it in awhile.
DH is obsessed! I think he eats it a few times a week.

@Beebug: Same! I read about it a lot on HB, but I have no idea what it is!
hostess / eggplant / 11068 posts
@Beebug: It's Vietnamese soup noodles. Rice noodles in a clear beef (or chicken) broth with a variety of thinly sliced meat and a slew of optional garnishes like beat sprouts, Thai basil, Thai chilies, lime...My mouth is watering, I have to stop.
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@Rubies: Where do you go out for it?! Maybe DH and I can go someday, or he could bring it home when on his way out of the city to the 'burbs
hostess / eggplant / 11068 posts
@Beebug: I go to Pho88 in Scarborough...There's one downtown...You can go to any Vietnamese restaurant!

I like it! It's super awesome on a cold day.
One of my friends told me not to drink the brooth though... I'm not sure what the reason was... does any one know if there is a reason not to drink the brooth?
hostess / eggplant / 11068 posts
@Raindrop: I think it's like salt and MSG galore. But whatever!
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@Rubies: k! We aren't exactly people who eat vietnamese ever (and we hardly ever eat out, ha!) so naming a place that's good was definitely needed for us to *dare* try something new!
I kinda want to try it!! Thanks!!
grapefruit / 4731 posts
@Rubies: Oh that doesn't sound too bad! I couldn't figure out what my friend was trying to tell me... she did try to explain it but it made no sense... I slightly remember it being something along the lines of it's bad for your bones... that doesn't make sense though.
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
yes, love it! but DH hates it... so we never go. it's one of the cheapest eating out options too - too bad!!

I'm Vietnamese and I love pho! My mom makes it all the time. We usually eat out because there's a lot of time and ingredients to make it but I recently found a crockpot pho recipe. Tried the chicken and beef recipe and its so good.
Need to get some pho this week.
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
@Rubies: Some places don't use MSG. It can be made without. I made my crockpot pho without MSG.

Not really, but I don't like most soups. My husband is Vietnamese, so obviously it is one of his favorite things to eat. I need to learn how to make it.

I love pho too. I miss being able to pick some up whenever I want. There is a place, but I've been disappointed before and I'm not really counting on it

@bluestriped bee: oo! Can you share this recipe?? I would eat pho everyday but have been wondering about MSG...

I love pho! It was one of my biggest pregnancy cravings at the beginning of the second tri. YUM!! If I weren't so full, I'd run out and get some NOW.

@knittylady: Sure!

Oh, for this beef pho, I did char the spices, onion and ginger. That's what my mom always does. Like this blog: http://www.steamykitchen.com/3136-crock-pot-pho.html

I love it! I wanted to go out for Pho this weekend but Dh didn't want it. I like lots of lime but the places here always have lemon! I need to just take my own.
admin / watermelon / 14210 posts
Obsessed with it. I have to have all the fixins - lime, bean sprouts, jalapeƱos and basil. Yum!!!
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
@edelweiss: lol I'm glad the pho didn't come between you guys!
grapefruit / 4400 posts
@bluestriped bee: hahaha, I read WC's blog and have been tempted to make crock pot pho, but it's so readily accessible here (OC) and cheap that I don't even bother! I'm Vietnamese, too
I love love love love love love love pho. I'm really tempted to get some tonight now, after reading this thread. Oxtail pho is sooo good, but I usually get it with rare steak, well done flank, and fatty brisket. MMMM. Of course with bean sprouts, Thai basil, sawtooth herb, Sriracha, and hoisin sauce!

L.O.V.E! We make our own often and I always save bones for to make pho.
@Rubies: who's got the best in the greater TO area?
Here's a q, do you pronounce "fo" or "fah"? I've heard the correct pronunciation is "fah"?
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
@HabesBabe: Yeah! It is so much easier to eat out. Although, I'm pretty picky with the places I go to. I like a flavorful broth. I've been to a bunch of pho restaurants but only found 2 that I will have pho at. One is at the mall and the other one is in closer to the city.
Crockpot pho is so good. Waking up to that pho smell is amazing! Makes me feel like I'm a kid again.
Ugh! This thread is making me so hungry. I'm currently out of town and not near a pho restaurant.
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
@regberadaisy: It's pronounced 'fah.' There's a pho restaurant here called "What the pho!" Pretty creative.

I've always LOVED pho but have an aversion to it since I've been pregnant for some reason =( No. Fun. At. All.

Love it and so do my kids. We have a favorite pho place and go there often. It's a guaranteed success meal.
