I never used to be a fan up until 2-3 years ago. Then I had some Prince Edward Island oysters and now I'm hooked. DH and I get a couple from (trusted) grocery stores now and then as a treat.

Love them. Like you I never really liked them, then we got some super fresh delicious oysters sitting at a bar on Martha's Vineyard, right after our wedding, and everything was perfect and that's when I realized they are delicious! Haven't had any in a long being, being pregnant and all.

Love raw oysters! It's been a while since I have eaten any, since I am pregnant but I can't wait to eat some Gulf Coast oysters at the next family reunion in Feb.

I have never had them. I think when people eat them, they make it look delicious and it makes me want to try it. But then when I look at them, they just don't look appetizing by themselves....
I think I will have to try them one day. What do they taste like? Are they salty? Fishy? Do they feel slimey in your mouth?

Ick, no. I really thought I would, as I love scallops and mussels etc. I found it very hard to swallow the thing and not spit it out!
@Shizaz: Yes I thought they were a little salty and fishy but that was fine by me, it was the slimey texture and the fact that it did not go anywhere when I chewed it that I struggled with! Although maybe I was eating it wrong

@Shizaz: it depends in the variety. I can't remember the name of the ones I picked up yesterday from wegmans. But those were not fishy at all.
We love it with a dab of Frank's red hot.

I can't even figure out how to make myself eat them without throwing up, so noooo! I love lobster and scallops, but really don't like shrimp.

Yessss!! Ahh LOVE LOVE LOVE raw oysters. I can down a dozen (or more) myself. Great, now I'm craving them at 10am!

@snowjewelz: do you know of any Chinese buffets that have reputable oyster selections????
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
I love raw oysters and clams, but only if someone else is shucking them for me. I like them with a squeeze of lemon.

@regberadaisy: The ones we "frequent" (we really don't like buffets much anymore but sometimes it's just easy!) are Mizumi (on Northern), The Buffet (college point), and Minado (a lil further out). I think all 3 are pretty good!

I *love* them - they are not slimy to me, and I have a pretty strong gag/slimy stuff reflex/aversion.
I love the super briny ones; they taste like the ocean - not sure how else to describe it.

I love them! They're one of the treats I am really looking forward to when I'm no longer pregnant.

@yoursilverlining: haha that's a good way to describe it.

Yep. I always get them when we're in Pensacola!

Yes! I had my first raw oyster last year on a fun food tour. Since then, I've ordered them out a few times. I like them with a little lemon and cocktail sauce.

No way. But I also hate steamed oysters. I think they taste like chewy dirt. Strangely, though, I love to shuck them. Like I own a drawer full of oyster knives so I'm always prepared. I become the shucker when they're being eaten around me. They're a pretty common party/football food around here.

@BananaPancakes: how cheap are they by you??
grapefruit / 4817 posts
@regberadaisy: I don't know if they're cheap, but typically $50-$60 a bushel. They're usually a bit cheaper towards the panhandle.

Omg yes. I can eat hundreds of Kumamotos in a sitting. Love how we are surrounded by the best seafood here in the pnw!
And now this pregnant lady is craving raw oysters with a squirt of lemon and Tabasco -.-

I like them grilled or fried but can't do raw. They have to be small. Mostly it's the texture.
