I worked in retail for 8 years.... it took 2 years after I quit to finally enjoy the holidays! Its even better now that we are living in a house and not an apartment. We plan on putting up christmas lights outside. And I really want to go crazy decorating the house this year. Just need to find the time...

I'm obsessed with Christmas. Have been my whole life.

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!

But I haven't always... my mom would get stressed and she used to have a horrible temper, so the holidays always ended up with her yelling at everyone and nobody was happy. I hated Christmas because my dad would complain about money the whole time and my mom would yell about everything else. It was awful. She's mellowed out though, and now that I don't live at home I don't have to listen to my dad's complaining.

My DH and I are not like that at all!! And now we enjoy it a lot more.

@sweetkate: agreed!! I worked nearly two years and hated it... but thankfully it didn't ruin my Christmas/Thanksgiving/etc experiences.

I hated it when I was single because my dad passed away when I was younger, and my mom wasn't very family-oriented so we never really celebrated once he was gone - it didn't really feel festive for us. Luckily I had my sister so we would watch Friends marathons together and veg out while everyone else spent time with their families.

I think Thanksgiving was the loneliest bc that is the one holiday that is completely centered on family. At least Christmas there's tons of parties and gift exchanges going on so it wasn't as bad.

Every year around the holidays I think about how hard they must be for those without family, friends, or loved ones. I know it can be the hardest time of year for some!

Now that I have my own family and wonderful in-laws I enjoy spending time with - I LOVE them...

I so very much love the holidays and this year I'm even more excited because it's Prettybaby's first Christmas. So.Much.Fun

@Mrs. High Heels: yeah but she's changed a lot in recent years. She isn't so high-strung and doesn't get so mad, so that's been a nice change. Now that only half her kids are left at home maybe it's just less stressful?? We enjoy Christmas with them now a lot more.

@Ree723: heheh that made me laugh.. (Fellow Aussie) it is always stinking hot and we usually have roast so it's twice as hot inside!! I would love a cold Christmas too!!!

I absolutely love the holidays and everything about them! Except the inevitable family drama. But I love the decorations, shopping, giving and getting gifts, cooking and eating huge meals, eating leftovers, the tree, the cards, the music, the movies, the snow... everything!!!

I looove the holidays! Favorite time of the year!

The only thing is, I feel like holidays feel less holiday-ish in the suburbs. I don't know... something about being in the city with lights and decoration everywhere... it just feels more Christmas-y.
