I buy most of our furniture at antique stores. I think it's prettier and sturdier then the new stuff.

I agree with you, I love, love, love vintage furniture but I like to team it with modern pieces, too, to give it an edge.

I love it. Like you, I like to mix old an new in my house.

We tend toward antiques and solid wood pieces. We just bought an antique dining table that isn't really fancy but is easily 100+ years old and I love it. We plan to pair it with some more modern chairs once we find the ones we like.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: Yessss!!! Feast your eyes on this baby, 12" planks that are 7' long, square headed nais and the best (and worst!) part is that because it's a true antique it's not a standard height, it's almost 3" taller than a regular table. We're probably going to have to have custom chairs made to sit high enough, but it was so awesome we couldn't say no.

@regberadaisy: thanks! I agree about the faux vintage for sure. It's funny because you can see our old table in the background and DH joked with the dealer we bought the new one from and said "Beat the crap out of it with a hammer and paint it white and someone would buy it now that it's 'vintage'!" lol!

I like vintage for sure and like you - a blend of modern with vintage helps even it all out.

This is my dream table! Only bigger/longer so that it could seat more like 8 people. Handmade from recycled wood - so pretty!

@Mrs. Pen: We were thinking something kind of like that for our table. We don't want any more wood in the room (there is tons... floors, bannisters, baseboards, kitchen counters) so it needs some fabric to break things up a little.

Love this thread! We have a pretty good mix of old and new in our house. I went through a major "Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic" phase before I met DH. Our entire guest bedroom is all vintage furniture. Kaitlyn's dresser and night-stand are antiques and re-finished. And our formal dining room & living room set are vintage Chinese redwood inherited from DH's aunt & uncle. Everything else is pretty modern style (think Z Gallerie style).
