MIL just gave us her dining set which really isn't remotely my style so I need to reupholster the chairs to bring more in line with our stuff. I was hoping for some insipration and interesting fabric ideas/suggestions. thanks!

Yep. I reupholstered two wing back chairs myself. My biggest tip is to write down and photo every piece you take off so you don't forget what order to put the new fabric back on. Also try not to rip the old fabric so you can use it to make a pattern for the new.

I have! I like to use indoor/outdoor fabric because its sturdy, and I've also had good luck with Premier Fabrics. If you just take your time and label and/or photograph each piece so you know where it came from and where it goes, it makes the process much simpler!

I agree with the ladies above on everything they've said. Great tips, and I honestly can't think of any better ones! My reupholstering has been limited but I have done a few pieces. A phone chair and a 50's storage bench.

Yes!! I did our old kitchen chairs! I used a dark blue suede fabric, it is very durable!

Are slip overs an option? The most I have done is seat cushions, so no help there!

@Leialou: Oooh, this is a great point that I will need when I do the ottoman.
@grizz: thanks, I will check it out.
I don't think I will bother to take the old fabric off, I will just put the new stuff on over it to minimise the amount of work involved

@plantains: I just posted these links on another thread, but I think she does a great step by step.
(I linked to the last part of a multi-part series, because she has all the links to the other on there.)

@plantains: I highly recommend an electronic staple gun too. No hand cramps!

@Leialou: I didn't even know there was such a thing, thanks!
@Espion: that is amazing, thank you so much!
