Another opal hater here (October). I wish garnet was October - I love garnet!

Peridot!!! I used to not like it and even got my HS class ring in another stone. One of the blue ones, I believe. But then green became my favorite color shortly after that and now I LOVE it.

@Mae: same here. I love the white opal but don't like the pink. My wedding ring isn't fitting right now so I've been wearing my new opal band instead.

Opal is very delicate. I've heard it needs to be soaked in water - not sure if it's true. I'll have to ask my FIL - he's a jeweler.

@Mamasig: I've never heard that, I actually thought water was bad for it? I've heard some people say you should rub it occasionally with mineral or baby oil. And I've heard others say that you should just make a habit of rubbing it with your fingers and the oil from your hands are enough to keep it… oily? Or whatever lol. I don't actually have any right now so I haven't thought that much about it.

Mine is peridot and it's just ok. I'd never buy a piece of jewelry with that stone set in it.

@chopsuey: it's prettier than mine! Mine is citrine/topaz and I'm not a fan. It's always paired with gold jewelry but I like white gold.

Mine is garnet and I like it! I think it looks nice with yellow or white gold, and it isn't super expensive so you can get the real thing in regular, not fancy jewelry, unlike, say, diamonds or rubies.

But I have always like amethyst more because I'm definitely a purple girl!

DH is garnet too, and LO is ruby, so it's all red.

@cyndistar3: Same! I'm okay with Ruby (mine) but love DHs (emerald). He likes his more than mine, though. LO will be opal which is fine.
