My mother in law was just here and whenever she or my father in law visit, I am instantly in a bad mood when they leave. It's so unfortunate. My MIL doesn't speak English that well (although I think she can speak more than she lets on) so there is essentially no communication. When she was here, I was making LO laugh and then LO got the hiccups. My MIL kept saying oh, mommy make you laugh now you no feel good. Now you no feel good. Repeating it again and again. And then giving me a look like I am the worst mother on the planet. Ugh. And she's never helpful when she's here. As soon as LO fusses, she hands her right over. Thanks. Do you like/get along with your in laws?

Love my MIL, loathe my FIL & BIL/wife. If I never see them again it'll be too soon

Yes, I'm blessed with amazing in laws. My FIL can be a little loud sometimes, but to know him is to love him, he means well.

Love my ILs... tho they are funny sometimes. MIL was asking if I am craving anything (almost 38 weeks with twins) and I said fruit. She just brought over ~50 peaches. LOL!!!!

It's just my MIL and, yes, I do really like her. She definitely has her flaws, but she means well and is a very good person.

My ILs are weird about how they handle things sometimes, and it makes me scratch my head, but I love them and I know I'm lucky that they aren't mean or overbearing. I don't have kids though, so maybe that's why! haha

I wasn't super close w/ my in-laws until the girls arrived. My mother passed before the girls arrived and I was bitter and couldn't really see past a lot of things. It was my own issues not my in-laws issues however in saying that we did have our fair share of not seeing eye to eye.
I am now in a much better place and through a lot of work am able to see the big picture and truly appreciate who they are individually and who they are to my girls [their first grandchildren] and me.

My SIL is one of my closest friends. I do not like my MIL at all. I can take or leave FIL and my other SIL.

I never really minded them until baby was born. Now, they are really irritating me. She also brought all this food over, which is nice, but then she will bring stuff that I can't eat and my husband has told her time and time again. It's like she does it on purpose, Ugh. -

They aren't people I would ever choose to spend time with. They mean well, but we have nothing to say to each other. DH doesn't have a great relationship with them, so it is just awkward.

I loved my MIL until I had a child.. and she sounds a lot like your MIL.. I had to live w/ her for a month while we waited to close on our house and I thought I was going to lose it.

My MIL is annoying in an air headed insanely nosy &bossy (but still generally kind hearted) kind of way,FIL is alright but I would be incredibly uncomfortable if I ever had to be alone with him. I LOVE my BIL/his wife/our niece!

I do -- I consider myself very lucky compared to a lot of my friends. My ILs are very sweet people and I think the best thing about them is that they give us our own space. They would never intrude on our privacy or get involved in our personal business, which if my friends are any indication can be rare, particularly in MILs haha. They're there for us, but they're not all over us, if that makes sense.

my MIL is pretty awesome!! She's one of the hardest working women I know while still caring for her family. She always asks about me when she calls DH and asks what she can make for me (to eat)!!

I like my in-laws a lot. Neither of us are perfect, but I totally respect them as people and I think that's the basis for a good relationship.

Yes... We have a small language barrier so we don't have to talk much, lol
But they're very easy going & understanding. I think it's mostly due to DH tho, he makes sure they don't interject too much.

I love my MIL - she is one of the most generous, funny, warm people I know. She can drive me a little batty sometimes with her overwhelming energy, but I know she cares deeply about my little family. I'm eh towards FIL. I know he means well, but he's says stupid, offensive things, was not a great father to DH, and I am already wary about the types of comments he will make towards LO as she grows older since he already likes to tell her she's "fat" and needs to "lose weight" (she is 19 months old).

@ellewoods84: yes, i love my in laws. Sometimes they can be a PITA but we have a great relationship where we can tell each other how we feel.
My DD LOVES my ILs she will go happily with them and she is a Velcro kid.

I am very lucky to have incredible IL's. My FIL can drive me a little nuts sometimes, but I am thrilled they are a part of my life and my sons.

I do. They are wonderful people. They sometimes drive me a little crazy because they are very different from my own parents and sometimes have different priorities than DH and I but all in all we get along well.

I am lucky to have awesome in-laws. I do get annoyed that we have to spend SO much time with them, but they are awesome and always willing to babysit/help out so I can't complain.

For the most part. MIL can be a bit over the top, and she and FIL make questionable choices, but they're nice people.

I think I'm pretty lucky in that I do get along with them really well, They are very sweet and always have good intentions... that said, they live pretty far away so we only see them 1-2 times per year. And when they visit us I do tend to get tired of them after a few days... Not bad AT ALL compared to some friends of mine though!

I absolutely love them. We stated dating in high school, so they've been like a second set of parents to me. MIL and I are very close and she actually respects my choices/decisions regarding LO way better than my mom.

I like SFIL and FIL has grown on me a lot since B was born. I do not like MIL. At all. I also don't like either BIL's. DH isn't close with his mom or brothers so it makes things pretty easy for the most part.

nope. There's nearly 10 years of bad history between us. Life got better for me when I stopped caring about her or giving her the time of day. During their phone calls with LO, she'll only address my presence if DH's grandmother or her friends are in the room. Otherwise, I'm a walking uterus and wife to her son, the one she wanted to marry him.

lol I want to bite my tongue but MIL drives me nuts. a lot of passive aggressive comments delivered while she's talking to dd (who she consistently calls "her baby").. the other day she told A she was sorry that she may not make it to her wedding - A is 13 weeks.. sigh..

Ugh. I just feel like it's so complicated. I like them enough to respect them but we don't have the most amazing relationship which will be interesting when LO gets here.
MIL & SIL live with each other. SIL is 16 years older than DH and they are our closest relatives. We get along pretty well (now) but they are very conservative religiously in a way that makes them intolerant.
FIL & SMIL live in West Palm Beach. FIL is ex-military and very judgmental while SMIL is a complete nut who is OBSESSED with my MIL. She talks about them every single time I see her and she was terrible with DH when he was growing up. They also both adopted children and gave up rights to the older daughter when parenting became "hard." Safe to say, I'm not ever leaving my kid in their care.
I love DH's cousins and aunts on his father's side though. They are a blast and generally avoid the FIL/MIL conflict. It's messy! I don't dislike them they're just both two extremes on opposite ends of the spectrum of life.
