I hate my job.

The reason why I hate my specific job is that I don't feel like my boss is a very good business person. I don't think he evaluates what cases we should take and not take very well (we're attorneys). And he treats me like his secretary.

The reason I'm pretty sure I wouldn't like a job with even a normal firm: I don't think I'm well suited for litigation. My entire job is about conflict and angry people. The clients are angry, the other side is angry. I have to write things in an angry/indignant frame of mind all the time. Even when you win or come to a settlement your client is rarely happy because they think it either took too long or you didn't get them ENOUGH. And that's even assuming you can collect. Which you definitely cannot always do because there are so many freaking deadbeats who would rather file for bankruptcy when they lose a lawsuit than pay their debts. It's emotionally exhausting to be completely entrenched in anger and conflict all the time and I hate it.

@babyjmama: It really does! I think I'm really a baseline "happy" person I thrive in positive environments so I just don't think it matches my personality. Some people are sort of bulldogs and they thrive on conflict and winning and being right. I"m more like... can't we just get along people? lol.

Also I think coworkers make a huge difference! I don't have any, it is just my boss and me. So I have no company ever. When I have had jobs in the past where I was friendly with coworkers, even if I didn't love what I was doing, it made a huge difference in my happiness going to work.

@Mae: Wow - I knew about your boss of course but didn't realize in such a succinct way about the other stuff. No wonder you don't like it! Ouch!

I likeish my job! I'm trying to find my 'calling' and feel like I'm halfway there

I used to love my job, but with budget cuts and policy changes employee moral has gone way down. Now it sucks.

I really like my workplace! I am so happy here. My only complaint is that they're so slow to promote. You have to do the work for the job you want long before they give you the job..which stinks. I've been doing additional (much harder and more stressful) work for almost a year with no end in sight. To be honest, I'd take the title change over the pay raise at this point.

I like my job a lot (I'm an RN in intensive care). It's rewarding and exciting and I can't take any work home so it's very separate from my family life. I like that my work days are extremely different from my SAH days. I am also very lucky because I can work two 12.5 hour days / week and still get 24 hours in and get paid well.

The downside is that I am emergency personnel and my work days are not flexible. If M's sick, I still have to go in. If there's a blizzard, I still have to go in. I also work overnights and some holidays, which sucks.

Yes, I love it. I work in higher education and I definitely feel like this is what I was meant to do in life. I love working with the students and it is very rewarding.

I am currently job searching (any help @babyjmama ?) but I feel so-so about what I do. I feel like the workplace makes all the difference.
My last job was the best one I'd had.....such a great company culture, bonuses, Christmas parties, flexibility with hours, good management.
The job before that I hated every second!
My ten year plan is to own my own business so my hours are flexible for LOs.

I'm a business analyst.

I love my career. The industry I am in is very female friendly and part of my satisfaction comes from helping women achieve their entrepreneurial goals.

I like what I do, in that I'm writing, and I love to write, but I don't like my particular job right now. It's for a small newspaper, and that field is struggling, so the salary is a pittance, plus I strongly dislike two of my four coworkers, so...yeah.

Yep - love my current job! I am a quality assurance supervisor for an environmental analytical laboratory. I was a lab analyst for years and sometimes I miss the day-to-day of doing actual science work but in this position I get a lot of pride in ensuring that our work is of the highest quality. I don't know if I want to stay in the environmental field forever, and am considering a change/promotion to enter the food science industry. Someday I may want to become an auditor and review laboratories for their accreditation, but they're a little bit like the ref's - people love to hate them

@MrsKoala: s.e.r.i.o.u.s.l.y. I was thinking about you the other day, actually. Perhaps this is a better wall conversation, since it would completely de-rail this thread...but I hope you're feeling better!

I'm a high school teacher. I love my school & my coworkers. It can be exhausting at times, but I really do enjoy it. I'm hoping to be a SAHM for a while when our LO arrives, but always imagine myself doing something in education.

I have a good job/career, I'm in marketing, however I am not in love with it or passionate about it and to me it's more a job that pays the bills, but it is not necessarily fullfilling.

I teach at a career college- parts of it I love, other parts not so much. There's a lot of bureaucracy that gets old and I have a never ending amount of work at home- grading never ends.

My real passion is curriculum development and tutoring my seniors and graduates for their boards- I can't ever get enough of that part of the job.

I love my job, but I don't always love the school that I work at. I teach full day pre-k and its awesome. Even though its exhausting and my patience gets tried every single day, the kids always make me smile and its so worth it to see how much they learn.

I work in education. I'm not in love with my job, but I love the lifestyle that it provides for my family (i.e. compensation, flexability, work-life balance) and I believe in the mission and purpose of our institutions.
