I have never done this but my MIL told me that this should be mandatory at our new house.
If you do, what do you use? Contact paper?

I was thinking of doing this when we move. They have grip type ones, I never thought of contact paper. I'm interested to hear some answers though.

Most our are lined. It does make it easier to clean out and wipe down. They sell the paper to line shelves and drawers in the kitchen area at most stores like Walmart or wherever. I actually just had to buy some the other week.

Yes. I prefer a shelf liner more like this: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Duck-12-x-10-Smooth-Top-Easy-Liner/16456555.

I don't ever actually adhere the liner but its a great way to protect the actual wood of the cabinets and drawers. Plus its a lot easier to clean and wipe out!!

I line all my shelves because it makes clean up easier should there be a spill. I purchase the large rolls of shelf liners from wal-mart (as @pelikila: suggested) and cut them down to size.

@pelikila: Thats what I just put in LOs dresser. Its nice and thick and you dont have to actually "stick" it down.
In my kitchen and shelves I use the paper kind and thumb tac it down. Its easy to disinfect and wipe out. I dont ever use or peel the back off and use the sticky back because if you ever want to replace it I feel that would be a mess to tear it all out, so I just tac it down.

@Rescuemom10: I prefer never to adhere liners so I like that there isn't that option with that kind. I like the idea of tacking though. I can see that in kitchen cabinets being useful.

I use the same liner posted by @pelikila: I use that in every drawer and every cupboard in all rooms in the house,

Most, but not all. And I have a combination of (smooth) contact paper and grippy liners.

Yes, always! All of our shelves are lined. I use contact paper because they're easy to wipe down.
