I grew up mostly in Northern Virginia, and moved to New York. You couldn't drag me back now even if my life depended on it! I think mostly it's that I don't like the suburbs, and that's mostly what my hometown was all about...

Grew up in southern CA. I'm in the durrrty south now. After 2 years living here I've grown accustomed to it, but don't see us staying here much longer.

No, I live in New York and I grew up in Hawaii but left for college at 18. We may consider retiring there but that's so far away that who knows? We like New York although I often wonder why we live somewhere that is SO FRIGGIN expensive. For now, DH's job requires it but if that ever changes then maybe I would want to relocate.

I grew up an hour away from where I live. I use to live in a town with a population of 300. no stop lights, no gas station, no grocery store.. 
now we live in a bigger city.

@Andrea: Jealous! Hawaii sounds so much better than NYC right now.
I was born in Brooklyn and have lived here all my life except for the 4 years of college upstate NY. I love Brooklyn. But New York City life has been wearing me down. My husband doesn't want to leave any time soon though. Sigh.

I only live an hour (one county away) from where I grew up. I love NC and I can't imagine living in another region. I do want to eventually move closer to my hometown when we start having kids. They have better schools, the BEACH, and it's an overall better area.

I grew up in Ga and now I live in TX. I wouldn't go back either! If we ever move again it'll be to hubby's home state, Louisiana. I love Louisiana!

I grew up about 40 mins north of Boston, and we now live about 20 mins southwest of Boston. I love Boston and would love to stay here forever, but I don't like running into people from high school so I'm staying in the south shore! Well... we'll see.

I've lived in Toronto my whole life (except for the year I was 3 when our family moved to Vancouver intending to stay there but the job situation for my parents was not good so we moved back to Toronto 10 months later). I can't imagine living anywhere else!

I live about 15 minutes from where I grew up. I wanted to move away, but my husband wanted to stay close to family. Now with a baby, I'm so glad we did! And I love our town, it's very artsy fartsy.

I live about an hour away from where I grew up and you couldn't pay me enough to ever move back there. I went to school in the South though and I'd love to move back.

I live in the same town, only minutes away from my parent's house (15 minutes walking distance). I didn't even leave for college, and of course campus was only minutes away (yup 15 minutes to walk there). There's something about this place that keeps me here, and I am happy to be able to raise my family here.

It's been almost a decade since I lived in my hometown (suburb of LA). I'm glad I got the experience of living in 2 other different cities. I almost can't imagine staying in one city to live in my whole life... I got the itch to leave at 22 and I'm glad I followed my heart (to San Francisco!). I really, really love where we are now (NYC), but we are moving back soon to somewhere pretty close to my hometown.
I have mixed feelings about it for myself... but I see so many pros for the move back for my children and my family in the long-run, that I've come to accept the move back as a positive thing, even though I was dreading it for a while (not totally a suburbs fan either).

@Andrea: Jealous too that you grew up in Hawaii. That's the only other state besides NY and CA that I'd like to live in someday On our last trip though, I realized it's so expensive to live there too, but I would think so worth it! I met a few locals who vacay'ed there and then pretty much never left... I wish I could do that!

DH and I both grew up outside of Boston (but in different towns). Now we live in California, and might be moving soon to Iowa. We would *love* to move back to Boston, but our careers are not cooperating with that goal right now.

I moved back into the house I grew up in and my parents moved into my grandparents house. So I'm still in the exact same spot I was raised.

We bought our first house and it's is actually 1000 feet door to door from the house I grew up in. I love my little town, and it's a great neighbourhood so we couldn't say no!

I grew up in a small town that was about 50,000 people. Now I live in a big city, about 1 million, and love it. I won't ever go back to the small town. It's a great place to raise kids and all but once you hit high school there isn't much to do so those kids resort to sex, drugs and alcohol.

After being born in NYC, my family moved to the Dallas area for my dad's job. I grew up in a suburb of Dallas called Plano. Now I live in Little Elm which is another suburb of Dallas that is exactly what Plano used to look like when we first moved there.
I'm happy with it. We have a big, beautiful house that we enjoy immensely.

Yep! We live in a town that is only 15 min away from our hometown (DH & I are from opp sides of the same town). Both of our parents still live there as well.

Well, that's tough, because I grew up all over the place. By the time I was 12 I had lived 8 places, but I've been in TX for the past 14 years and I tend to call it my home now.

@tina: I grew up 45 mins north of Boston too (Manchester, NH)! Where did you grow up? We now live in Brookline.
I now live about an hour from where I grew up (and incidentally where DH grew up, too). Some consider Brookline Boston, some consider it a suburb..

Heh, complicated question for me! I grew up in NC, FL, TN, CA, MI, WA, and Albania. We're currently also living in Albania, but we're moving soon and will probably settle with kids in another country in Europe.

DH grew up in Atlanta though and that is where we are preparing to move back to.

We live 45 minutes from where I grew up and 30 from where my husband grew up. We're moving in a week and will be in the town where I grew up and still work and 10 minutes from where he grew up. Can't wait to be back in my hometown. It's nothing extremely special, but it's home.
